God Has Prepared New Jerusalem
The city of the living God, the city having the foundations, has been prepared by God. Hebrews 11:16b says, “He has prepared for them a city.” This preparation is the process which the processed Triune God has gone through, including incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. This preparation is also to bring forth the New Testament believers as the sons of God to be the components of the mother, who is the city, and to build them together with the divine element of the Triune God and the spiritual work of the Spirit of the Triune God.*
Hebrews 11:16 declares that God “has prepared a city for them” —for those who seek Him in faith. This is by faith to seek the “things which are not seen,” the eternal things (2 Cor. 4:18).
God’s preparation of New Jerusalem has two parts. First is the process God went through, including (as stated above) incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. Second is His work in us to regenerate us, transform us, and make us living and built up members of Christ’s Body.
Hebrews 11 says “God has prepared;” it is already accomplished. This is God’s eternal view. Yet He still needs to do more in us, so we need to cooperate with Him and let Him build us together with all the believers around us. This is our path of faith to New Jerusalem.
