— Grateful, yet Grieving

I Praise you for What is Yet to Be by Ted Loder Guerrillas of Grace

Wonderous Worker of Wonders,
I praise you, not alone for what has been,
or for what is,
but for what is yet to be,
for you are gracious beyond all telling of it.

I praise you
that out of the turbulence of my life
a kingdom is coming,
is being shaped even now
out of my slivers of loving,
my bits of trusting,
my sprigs of hoping,
my tootles of laughing,
my drips of crying,
my smidgens of worshipping;

that out of my songs and struggles,
out of my griefs and triumphs,
I am gathered up and save,
for you are gracious beyond all the telling of it.

I praise you
that you turn me loose
to go with you to the edge of now and maybe,
to welcome the new,
to see my possibilities,
to accept my limits,

and yet begin living to the limit
of passion and compassion
until, released by joy,
I uncurl to other people
and to your kingdom coming.

for you are gracious beyond all telling of it.

Home Depot Widows Club — Grateful, yet Grieving

Taking on responsibilities for home repairs was my husband’s job. He loved going to Home Depot and Lowe’s. Me, not so much. It’s a place that is overwhelming, unfamiliar, and I can never find a person to help me. One of the first times I went to Home Depot after my husband died was to find a lock/l

Space for Grace — Grateful, yet Grieving

During July, I made a deliberate decision to unplug from social media. Throughout the spring, I noticed I was spending too much time on my phone. Every Sunday morning, my phone would tell me how much time I had spent on it. I sensed I was not paying close attention to my inner life, and it

Moving toward the Light — Grateful, yet Grieving

This past summer, I was able to travel with my two adult children to four national parks. With the limits of travel due to the quarantine, we made a road trip and went to Yosemite, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier. I made a goal of seeing the sunset in each park at least once. As I

Creating Hope — Grateful, yet Grieving

After college, I worked with children with special needs in a child development center. One of the activities I would create for the children was an art project, usually with a theme or related to the season of the year. I remember distinctly that it was all about the “process, not the product.” Ea

Temporary Gifts — Grateful, yet Grieving

Last week was my wedding anniversary. The date on the calendar has been etched in my brain since 1981, when I walked down the aisle. It was a day of gratitude for the years I did have, while grieving the years I didn’t get to have. Recently, while attending a memorial service, I heard the
