“Keeping a close watch on (Jesus), they (the teachers of the law and the chief priests) sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said, so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor. So, the spies questioned him: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
Suppose I knew ahead of time that the people who cheered for me one day, would sneer at me five days later. That the people who showered me with praise one day would hurl insults the next. How would I respond to the accolades, applause, and admiration of others on a Sunday…if I knew those same people would turn their backs on me and shake their raised fists at me the following Friday?

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9Holy Week begins with a murderous plot by the Jews and praise from those who saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead a week earlier. Have you ever wondered why we sing together as believers or why it’s important? Was this a tradition that developed over the years or was it a command in the Bible? And what is the purpose of singing in church?I always enjoy singing with other believers when we meet for worship, but sometimes I look around the sanctuary and think people are missing out on why we sing. It saddens me when I see people chatting with their friends, scrolling on their phones, or sipping their coffee during congregati
From Imagination, Inspiration. Take a breather. Stop for a moment during your busy day. It will only take a moment to read one of these short stories, though it might take a little longer to think about how the story relates, if it does, to your life. Some are funny—even silly! Others are much more serious. Some are pure fiction, others plain fact. Whichever they are, there is truth included, and truth applied can only be a positive thing. Written over several years as contributions to the Faith
What does it mean to be Instruments versus Men or Women of God? I was reading in the Bible today about King Jehu of Israel and how he removed all of King Ahab’s family. He did what God wanted, except in the matters of the heart. He continued in the sins of Jeroboam. You can […]

There is a reason certain hymns stand the test of time. Well-crafted hymns combine theology, poetry, and music into an unforgettable declaration of the Christian faith. 18th-century hymns focused on the character of God and his sovereign reign over creation, while 19th-century hymns personalized the Christian’s daily walk with God. The purpose of this article is to bring awareness to certain Lenten hymns from history for you to include in your devotions throughout this season. If some of these a

One of the many tools I took away from my time at seminary was learning how to vet a book. I learned that not all “Christian” books are truly Christian, and not all theology books reflected my personal convictions. I also learned that not all publishers are created equal. From these lessons, I have determined which authors and publishers I trust, giving me the confidence to read authors I have not read before if they are produced by publishers I trust. Because my degree is in Church Music and Wo
One of the greatest challenges I have felt as a senior leader is the pressure to regularly communicate the personal vision I own in my head.
