How to boost your self-esteem in Jesus

Have you ever lost your confidence because you tried pleasing others who did not appreciate you?

If you are someone who has been discouraged because of so many downs you had and have lost your self-esteem along the way, then Jesus is waiting to restore you.

Additionally, when your self-esteem is low, you do not have confidence in who you are and what you can do.

Most of the time, you feel incompetent, unloved, and never enough. Thus, you would overcompensate everything you do.

Furthermore, low self-esteem could make you stressed, overwhelmed, and pessimistic. This steals your joy and ability to make the best out of your life.

How to boost self-esteem in Jesus

Our hearts are weak enough to contain all life's disappointments. However, we can do everything through Him with Jesus Christ. (Philippians 4:13)

Here are some helpful ways to help us boost our self-esteem in Jesus.

Renew your mind

Everything starts in our minds. Our mind is the control center of everything from our thoughts to our feelings. Our body would respond depending on what you think about yourself.

Ephesians 4:22-24 says, “Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, He has given you a new life and a new you.

If you were dismayed, hopeless, and discouraged, He has given you hope and power to enjoy life.

You are now free from thinking that you are worthless. Remember, God loves you so much to give His beloved son to redeem and restore you.

If you thought God does not value you, you are more precious than gold. Consider these things, and you will see how your emotions and body respond.

You will have the enthusiasm and energy to achieve your dreams and God’s plan.

Remember who you are in Jesus

List all the Bible verses about who you are in Christ Jesus. First, God knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb.

If you were not valuable, why would God try to know you if you are nobody to Him?

"Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." - Jeremiah 1:5

Moreover, if no one ever appreciated you, remember that God made you fearfully and wonderfully. He has given you gifts and talents that are suitable for you.

There are so many verses about your identity in Jesus Christ. Discover them as you devote your time to God and list them down.

Put it on your wall so you will be reminded every day.

Most of the time, if we were tired and weary of seeking validation from others, we forget who we are.

Thus, it is always good to be reminded so we can keep track. The more you know your identity in God, the more you will realize that you are more than what others think you are.

Care for yourself

You can never boost yourself without getting fit. Take care of yourself, and do not let the opinions of others eat your entire system.

People around you may say you are not as attractive as before because you may have gained weight or given birth.

Instead of worrying about yourself, try to work out and get back in shape. Do not do it for those who criticize you; do it for yourself.

You will feel beautiful about yourself when you first take care of yourself.

Additionally, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. If God dwells in us, then we must take care of ourselves.

Sometimes, we care for other people’s opinions so much that we neglect to care for ourselves.

God wants you to feel beautiful because you are His creation. He wants you to love and care for who you are. Yet He also wants you to cherish yourself.

Work on your character

A person with high self-esteem is not insecure around others. So we need to work on our personalities. The beauty inside is what matters to God more than our physical image.

To boost our self-esteem, we need to work on our inner beauty. A Godly woman shows grace, kindness, and humility.

Our confidence comes from our Heavenly Father, so we should not be proud.

In addition, since we seek the self-esteem that comes from Jesus Christ, we must imitate Him in our words, thoughts, and deeds. You do not have to perfect it overnight.

However, you should always choose to be like Jesus in everything you do and say. This is a process, and God understands we are a work in progress.

We have to be the kind of woman described in Proverbs 31 and the kind of man like Noah, David, and all the faithful characters in the Bible.

Apostle Paul once said we must imitate him as he imitates Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

Our character is a powerful tool to boost our confidence in Christ. No one could shake our confidence if it came from Jesus.

Have Christ-like compassion for yourself

Do not be hard on yourself, especially when you fail. Jesus Christ understands our flaws and weaknesses. He loves those who are poor in spirit and brokenhearted. He chose Peter as his disciples.

Moreover, God chooses imperfect people for a perfect calling. But those people selected by God also failed and committed mistakes.

Yet, God’s grace and mercy are more significant than our mistakes. God understands and is gracious toward His people.

So be kind to yourself when you fail or suffer from brokenness. God remembers your name more than your mistakes.

You can always come near Him and ask for forgiveness, and God is faithful and just to forgive your sins.

Therefore, when God forgives you, He also forgets your sins, so you are free from guilt.

You can boost your self-esteem when you believe God accepts and loves you despite being unclean.

More importantly, failure is part of the process of achieving our goals. Your failure does not define who you are.

Things may not always go the way we want them to. Remember that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Appreciate your progress

There is nothing wrong with celebrating little progress or achievements.

When you appreciate your improvements, you glorify the Lord for what He has done for you. Always be grateful for the strength, wisdom, and gifts God has given you.

The more thankful you are, the more you will appreciate yourself.

It could boost your self-esteem when you see the results of your hard work.

Besides, whenever you feel like nobody cares, remember how God helped you overcome your past struggles.

You have come this far because of Jesus Christ, so do not let others’ opinions, failures, and disappointments stop you from achieving your goal.

Trust in the Lord

There are times when we doubt ourselves. But, we should trust the Lord amidst our doubts.

Our Father, our Creator, knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows what we are capable of doing if only we entrust our lives to Him.

The world will bring us fear and worries, but God designed us to be strong and courageous, for He will never leave or forsake us.

Thus, if we trust God’s words completely, there is no reason not to boost our self-esteem.

Through Jesus Christ, we are confident that God has a future for us. We can firmly believe that we will lack nothing through Him.
