You must discover and fulfill life’s purpose. I used the word, ‘must’ for a strong emphasis. I have met quite a number of people who are fulfilling their life’s purpose.

They have not made any attempt to know or find out their God-given purpose. They are living their lives aimlessly. Usually, one thing is common with this set of people – they are living a worthless life even if they have huge sum of money in their bank accounts.

What does it mean to discover and fulfill life’s purpose?

Discovering life’s purpose is all about finding out the reason why God made you and put you on this earth.

Fulfilling life’s purpose is not about fulfilling a career or being successful in a profession. Fulfilling God-given purpose is not about fulfilling your own heart desires.

Illustration on fulfilling life’s purpose

Have you ever carefully observed how you feel whenever any part of your body is experiencing pains and discomfort? Have you also tried to imagine how people who are disabled in one part of their bodies feel?

When a part of their bodies is not working the way it should, it will certainly affect the other parts of their bodies in one way or the other

Do you realize that the illustration above also applies to anyone who has disregarded the need to find out his or her life purpose and pursue it? I received inspiration for this chapter from the illustration of Paul the Apostle in the book of Romans 12:4 – 6: “In this way we are like the various parts of a human body.

Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around. The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and functions as a part of his body.

But as a chopped-off finger or cut-off toe we wouldn’t amount to much, would we? So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christ’s body, let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t” (MSG).

Part of Christ’s body

Christ is one body and we (Christians) are members of this singular body. Now, as part of this singular body, we are expected to find out our purpose in life and get down working on it.

If your hand is not performing the role it was created to perform this will surely not be good news to you. It is the same with Jesus Christ, as a member of His body, He expects us to discover our purpose and get down to the task of working out our purpose.

Become a child of God

Everyone born into this word has a purpose to fulfill. If you are reading this and you have not discovered your life purpose, the first step is for you to become a child of God by accepting and confessing Jesus as Lord and Savior. Then a search should be prayerfully carried out to discover God’s reason for creating you.

God’s servant Rick Warren wrote an interesting book, The Purpose-Driven Life and it’s such a wonderful book which treated almost anything anyone needs to know about the topic of purpose discovery.
