” I AM”
So picture it, Moses is tending his flock somewhere around 1450- 1410 B.C. He’s coming close to Horeb the mountain of God. He notices a burning bush, but it’s not burning up, so he’s curious now and goes to check it out. When he gets close God calls out to him. “Moses! Moses!”. And Moses says ” Here I am”. So God proceeds to tell Moses who he is and asks Moses to go to Pharaoh and bring his people out of Egypt.
Well, Moses was reluctant, feeling inadequate, and didn’t think he was the right person to do this bigger than big, humongous Job for the Lord. Well God says he IS. So now Moses is stumped and curious as to what he should say to pharaoh and the Israelite’s, and who he should say sent him. So God tells him ” I Am Who I Am. This is what you are to say to the Israelite’s: I AM has sent me to you”.
” This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation”.
Exodus 3:15 NIV
OKAY! Let’s think about this I AM! The magnitude of this one statement is bigger than big, incomprehensible. I meditate on this a lot. I feel my little human brain can not grasp this, I try, and I really do know HE IS.
Alright, so where I’m trying to go with this is God always was, is, and is to come. God is never-changing, his wisdom spans the ages from before time, his promises give meaning and direction to our lives.
Our God acts and speaks. Think about a time (if you have) trying to explain God to others. We can describe what he has done for us, people we know, or people whose stories are told in the Bible.
Again! I’m just so in awe, it’s breathtaking when I think about how our glorious creator was, he was with his angels, there, always. He is here with us, he is coming back!
He is an active, dynamic being who brought EVERYTHING into being. Wow, so awe, such joy. Praises to the uncreated one.
I AM, relating to God appears over 300 times in the Bible. First in Genesis 15:1 and the last Revelation 22:16. (Wikipedia). He is absolute.
” God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise he promise and not fulfill? “
Numbers 23:19 NIV
So, friends; in my excitement, I end with the below lyrics.
” Holy, Holy, Holy Is the Lord God Almighty. Who was, and is, and is to come. With all creation I sing: Praise to the King of Kings! You are my everything, And – I – will – adore YOU…Revelation Song; Philips, Craig and Dean
