Jesus is Our Way to New Jerusalem

Revelation 21:21 says about New Jerusalem, “the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.” The city has one street, not a multitude of streets like a present-day earthly city. This one street matches the word of the Lord Jesus, “I am the way” (John 14:6).
This one street, this way, has multiple descriptions in the New Testament.

In Luke 1:79 is “the way of peace.” This will surely continue into New Jerusalem because the name Jerusalem means foundation of peace.

In Matthew 22:16 and Acts 18:26 this way is also “the way of God.” In John 1:23 John the Baptist, quoting Isaiah, speaks of “the way of the Lord.” This too is characteristic of New Jerusalem—the throne of God and the Lamb is at the center of the city (Rev. 22:1).

In 2 Peter 2:21 is “the way of righteousness.” Then in 2 Peter chapter 3 he tells us that in the new creation, of which New Jerusalem is the center, “righteousness dwells.” There will be zero unrighteousness in the new creation!

And multiple times in Acts this path is simply “the Way.” This is Jesus Christ as our unique path for our daily walk today, as Colossians 2:6 urges us, “As therefore you have received the Christ, Jesus the Lord, walk in Him.” This is also our walk onward into New Jerusalem.
