Jesus Said, “I Will Build” (2)
Jesus Christ builds His church by operating though His gifted members to perfect all His members so that all participate in the building work (Eph. 4:11-12).
The goal of this participation is stated in verse 13, “Until we all arrive at the oneness of the faith and of the full knowledge of the Son of God, at a full-grown man, at the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” The goal of the building work is oneness and full growth. Verse 14 strengthens the thought of growth in life by the words, “that we may be no longer little children.”
Verses 15 and 16 show more about Christ building the church. We hold to Him as truth that “we may grow up into Him in all things.” He “is the Head” “out from whom all the Body, being joined together and being knit together through every joint of the rich supply [the gifted members] and through the operation in the measure of each one part, causes the growth of the Body unto the building up of itself in love.”
Again in verses 15-16, twice, is the matter of growth, the development of the divine life imparted into us at our regeneration. This growth is unto the building up. And this growth and building up involves the operation in the measure of each one part. This is the way we come to New Jerusalem.
