Living A Life Worth Following — SAMUELDEUTH.COM

Is your life worth following? And to make sure you know I’m asking myself these questions as well, is MY life worth following? Do people want to follow becomes an interesting first question and then the follow up question is, “When they do follow, where am I leading them?”

While I do often write about church leadership and other forms of leadership, this blog isn’t about leadership in a positional or organizational sense, it’s a broad question about our lives as humans and specifically as followers of Jesus. The Bible showcases all through the Bible that when His people follow His ways that their lives should be different enough that it attracts attention. Consider that the thought and ask yourself is there anything different about your life in the terms of your attitude, your family, your business or the way you talk? Two other big indicators of something being different in lives is how we handle success and how we walk through failure. Is there anything different about your life in those areas compared to others in your city or your workplace?

The topic of this blog is inspired by verses like this from the Apostle Paul:

'Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. ' 1 Corinthians 11:1

We’re not going to be perfect, but we are called to be an example. Another way that the Bible speaks to this topic is when Jesus says that when the Holy Spirit comes on us we’ll be His “Witness.” Think of this term literally in the legal sense of a witness in a trial. And imagine that the jury represents an individual or group of people that God is trying to bring the good news about salvation through Jesus, and now God is looking for a witness to take the stand and to testify about their connection and experience with Jesus. Now, your witness will partly be what you say about Jesus, but much of the credibility of your testimony is based on your life. Will your life and my life validate the reality of Jesus in our lives or will it deny him?

Living a life worth following is about inspiring other people to live their best life, but it’s so much more than that! It’s also the key way that Jesus reaches out loved ones and neighbors; through our lives. But, if my life is massively dysfunctional, I’ll have a hard time getting others to follow.

Now, of course when we first turn to follow Jesus, there are many areas of our lives that are often a complete mess! So, I’m not talking about perfection, but as you begin to follow Jesus and you begin to apply God’s word to your life, there should be a visible transformation that begins to take place in a way that others take notice.

3 Tips To Help Us Live A Life Worth Following:

    1. Live Authentic & Passionate:

You and I are most attractive to others when we’re honest and authentic. That means that while following Jesus, we’re not pretending that we have it all together. And we’re not attacking others as they flesh out their journey. It does mean that you run passionately after Jesus and allow him to work out the rough edges of your life as you go! And you don’t have to wait till your life is “all good” before you begin to invite people to Follow you as you follow Jesus.

    2. Live With Accountability:

If you haven’t already embraced the reality that you’re not designed to do life alone, than now is a great time to grab onto that truth. That’s why the Church is so key to the life of a believer; when you follow Jesus, we’re invited into the big family of God and we need each other in this family to be able to effectively keep growing. Most stop growing and become un-followable because they don’t surround themselves with people who encourage and challenge their lives.

    3. Live Committed:

One the keys to growing in your faith and seeing your thrive is to live committed! That means to fully commit to follow Jesus and His words!! Don’t go part way or some of the way in your devotion to Jesus, go all in!! Be a ALL IN follower of Jesus! The Bible words best when we submit fully to it. If you know someone who says “I tried it, but it didn’t really work.,” that’s because they usually didn’t fully commit to the process. I have a friend, Beaver Flemming, who’s a pro skateboarder, and he always talks about doing a “Full Send!!”, that means you’re going all in, you don’t hold anything back when you’re taking that jump or dropping into that bowl! And there’s nothing like the thrill of “sending it!” and there’s nothing like the disappointment of holding back and falling short because you didn’t give it 100%! When God Throws a Little Bit of “All Things” in Your Life

I love Romans 8:28. Now, let me be honest…sometimes I don’t. When I am going through a dark time of loss or disappointment, and someone throws a sloppy coat of Romans 8:28 on my open wound, I just want to scream. There. I said it. Paul wrote: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, Read more...

What does it mean to have childlike faith?

What do you think of when you hear the word “childlike?”For many of us, “childlike” might bring to mind something immature, foolish, or naive. Yet when Jesus talked about childlike faith, he wasn’t asking us to be any of these things. He was inviting us into something pure, trusting, and real. This week, I got to help lead worship at a kids' camp. Watching the kids worship was such a beautiful reminder of what childlike faith truly looks like. These kids worshiped, prayed, and talked about God.
