Love God, Now to New Jerusalem

New JerusalemRomans 8:29 declares that we are being conformed to the image of God’s Son with the ultimate result of glorification for the fullest expression of God by New Jerusalem.

Romans 8:28 says that with this goal in view “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” The good here is not human happiness or success. This good is the working of all people and circumstances around us to conform us to the image.

If the outward environment is negative, we should remember that God has called us, remember that Christ is “Head over all things to the church” (Eph. 1:22), and can declare Lord Jesus, I love You!

Our measure of what is good and what is not good has to turn from our human perspective to the heavenly perspective presented in Romans 8 and the whole New Testament. Also remember that “we do not know for what we should pray as is fitting, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Rom. 8:26).

We might not know how or what to pray at a certain time but we can join the Spirit’s groaning, calling O Lord, Jesus. Lord Jesus, grow in me; conform me to Your image; and keep me loving You! This is our path through conformation to His image and eventually to glorification and New Jerusalem.
