My Thoughts on SCOTUS Overturning Roe: A Christian Perspective

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. —Psalm 139:13–16 (NLT)

There’s a lot of talk today on abortion since the U.S. Supreme Court recently overturned Roe v. Wade. As a Christian, I believe the Bible’s teaching that life begins at conception, so I’m thankful for this! Each child has the right to life; God has a plan for them all that we shouldn’t interfere with.

With this decision, thousands—maybe millions—of children can potentially be saved and have the chance at life they deserve. Though the church can’t bring back the children we’ve lost since Roe v. Wade, Christians can add to the correction of this injustice.

We shouldn’t just celebrate this news, we should care for families—we need to prioritize the care of mothers and children.

But, What If. . .

Some women find out they’re pregnant and consider abortion. To that, I say: have the baby. If you don’t want the baby, there is adoption. Give the baby a chance at life.

Some may ask, “but what if the mom’s life is in danger?” In turn, I ask, “what should a mom do if her child ran in the middle of the street?” Would you tell her not to go save her child?

Should she not risk her life for her child’s? Any normal mother with maternal instincts would jump to save her child without question. If she risked being harmed in the process, you know any loving mother would still do it for her child’s protection.

To Moms Who Turned to Abortion

I know that moms who chose abortion and regret it may feel guilt and depression. Take comfort in knowing that you’ll see your child again.

Every little one that passes goes straight into the presence of God. Jesus said, “‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.’” (Matthew 19:14 NKJV)

I believe all aborted children are in Heaven right now. And even though you did something wrong—and you should ask God for forgiveness—He will forgive you. Accept His forgiveness.

“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1 NLT)

I don’t care what sin you’ve committed, God can forgive you. Romans 8:1 tells us there is no condemnation for our past if we belong to Christ. Ask for God’s forgiveness, accept it, and realize you are not condemned for what you’ve done.

If you’re a woman who had an abortion or a man who encouraged a woman to get one, if you ask God to forgive you, it is forgiven, and it is forgotten. It should be put in your rearview mirror!

God’s Forgiveness: From Planned Parenthood to Christ

A couple years ago, I got a response to a tweet of mine from a young lady named Crystal. She told me she would listen to my podcast every morning on her way to her job as a manager at Planned Parenthood.

Of course, I wanted to know the rest of her story, so I got in contact with her. Below is a piece of what she wrote.

“One day, while I was counting the pieces of a dismembered baby, I thought about Greg’s sermon: if Jesus came back right then and there, would I be left behind?” —Crystal

She repented and left that job behind. Now, she’s pro-life, working to protect and save the lives of unborn babies.

Do you see what God can do? God can change you, God can forgive you. You can make a break from the past.

Our Next Steps as Christians

With all the emotion and passion about this topic, let’s do everything we can to help any woman who finds herself pregnant to make the right decisions, so she doesn’t have to struggle with the aftermath of a wrong choice.

Let’s also do everything we can to care for families who need it. Caring for moms and children should be a priority of the church more than ever before.

Lastly, let’s pray and ask God to send a spiritual awakening to our nation—we really need it.
