New Jerusalem Foreseen in Ephesians, 3

Continuing to look at some parallels between Ephesians and New Jerusalem: in 1:16 Paul prayed for the Ephesians asking that God “may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the full knowledge of Him” (v. 17).  We need spiritual revelation and we also need wisdom to grasp the meaning of the revelation. We need such a spirit to see God’s purpose today and to grasp the future reality of New Jerusalem.New Jerusalem

Verse 17 unfolds the first result of this wisdom and revelation: “in the full knowledge of Him.” God is eternal and infinite but there is some measure of “full knowledge” which we should obtain. I believe we will gain greater knowledge of God in New Jerusalem.

Then (v. 18), “The eyes of your heart having been enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of His calling.” Christ Himself in us is “the hope of glory” (Col. 1:27). God also desires that we know (ver. 19), “what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the operation of the might of His strength.”

This power toward us is the power which operated in Christ to resurrect Him from the dead, raising Him to the heavenlies, and seating Him with authority over “all rule and authority and power and lordship” both now and in the future. This leads to the throne of New Jerusalem.

Do You Feel Accepted or Rejected?

I went to bed, pulled the covers over my head, and had a big ole pity party. Once again, I had been rejected…come in second place…told I wasn’t quite what “they” were looking for. The scarlet letter loomed large. It wasn’t an A like Hester Prynne’s in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book I had read in high school, but a big fat R that I chose to wear when life turned ugly. Read more...

        Sleeping and Waiting

Sleep is crucial to our health. It’s our body’s time to restore itself and make sure we’re ready for the day ahead! Waiting, in a way, is like the “sleep” portion of our faith. While we wait, God works. And imagine all the incredible work He’s doing!
