New Jerusalem is a Mutual Indwelling of God and His People

Revelation 21:22: “I saw no temple in it [New Jerusalem], for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.”

New JerusalemTo God the New Jerusalem will be His dwelling, and to us God will be our dwelling….The New Jerusalem is God’s dwelling place, and the New Jerusalem as the temple is God Himself as our dwelling place. Actually, the New Jerusalem is a mingling of the Triune God with His redeemed people, and this mingling is a mutual dwelling for God and His redeemed. God lives in us and we live in Him. He and we become one mingled entity for eternity.*

This mutual indwelling was first spoken by the Lord in John 14:20, “In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.” Based on v. 17-19, that day refers to the Lord coming to the disciples in resurrection.

In the epistles are many verses about Christ in us (example, Rom. 8:10) and us in Christ (example, 2 Cor. 5:17). This is the Christian life in resurrection. This mutual indwelling grows to become New Jerusalem.
