New Jerusalem Seen in Ephesians, 10

In Ephesians 3:8 Paul declares “To me…was this grace given to announce to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ as the gospel.” The gospel is God’s good news to us. This gospel is not merely our salvation from sin and death but our entering into experience of “the unsearchable riches of Christ.” These riches are in Christ for us both now and in New Jerusalem.New Jerusalem

The gospel also shows us “what the economy of the mystery is” (3:9). This is God’s dispensing of the riches of Christ into all His chosen people to build up a corporate expression of Himself. This expression is the Body of Christ, His fullness now (1:23) and New Jerusalem in eternity. Verse 3:9 also informs us that God “created all things” for this.

The expression God gains in the church, the Body of Christ, is to display “now to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenlies the multifarious wisdom of God” (3:10). This display is not only for this age but will radiate as the glory of God through New Jerusalem (even though all the negative “rulers and authorities” will be in the lake of fire). This is shown by 3:11, “according to the eternal purpose which He made in Christ Jesus our Lord,

These factors—unsearchable riches of Christ, the economy of God’s mystery, and the multifarious wisdom of God—show us that what God is doing and what New Jerusalem will be are far beyond human concepts. We can only receive His grace to participate in and enjoy His economy, and praise Him.

The scarlet letter loomed large. It wasn’t an A like Hester Prynne’s in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book I had read in high school, but a big fat R that I chose to wear when life turned ugly. Read more...

        Sleeping and Waiting

Sleep is crucial to our health. It’s our body’s time to restore itself and make sure we’re ready for the day ahead! Waiting, in a way, is like the “sleep” portion of our faith. While we wait, God works. And imagine all the incredible work He’s doing!
