New Jerusalem Seen in Ephesians, 22
Ephesians 6:18-20 concerns praying for all the believers and for Paul’s speaking of “the mystery of the gospel.” This mystery will be fully unveiled to the universe when New Jerusalem is “coming down out of heaven from God.”
Verses 6:21-22 are about fellowship among believers in Ephesus and Rome. This includes speaking but even more the flow of the divine life is the content of fellowship as seen in 1 John 1:1-3. This fellowship should grow in this age and will be at the highest amount and level in New Jerusalem.
The last two verses include peace, love, faith, and grace. All of these will be fully active in New Jerusalem.
• New Jerusalem is the foundation of peace
• the kingdom of God is “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 14:17)
• “God is love” and “we love because He first loved us” (1 John 4)
• First Peter 1:5 assures us that we “are being guarded by the power of God through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed at the last time.” This salvation includes our participation in New Jerusalem.
• Ephesians 1:6 “the praise of the glory of His grace” is now and New Jerusalem.
Ephesians 6:24 “Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ in incorruptibility.” The whole new creation including New Jerusalem is a realm of incorruptibility and we have a foretaste now.
