New Jerusalem, The Goal of God’s New Testament Building
This is a summary of the six posts on characteristics of God’s New Testament building and its development. The headings below are those from each of the six posts with links to them.
Jesus Christ Himself and His living in all the believers is the constituent of God’s building. He is our life (Col. 3:4) and as He grows in us we are built together in Him (1 Pet. 2:2, 5). The gifted members He has given to His Body perfect all of us (Eph. 4:11-12) and coordinate with all of us to do the building work. We build by holding to Him to receive His rich supply, experience it, and impart it into others (Eph. 4:15-16). This mutual impartation of the riches of Christ (Eph. 3:8) causes the building work to proceed.
God’s New Testament building and the entire building process, from Christ’s resurrection to His second coming, is in spirit and is heavenly in nature (but New Jerusalem does come down out of heaven to the earth), fully in the resurrection life. Likewise, New Jerusalem, as the consummation of this building (Rev. 21:1–22:5), is in no way earthly in nature nor composed of physical materials, and all its descriptions in Revelation 21 and 22 must be understood spiritually.
Jesus Christ is the Cornerstone of God’s Building
God’s Building is in Resurrection Life
God’s Building is in Christ Jesus
and of God we are all in Christ Jesus (1 Cor. 1:30)
God’s Building is Accomplished in His Believers by the Rich Supply from the Head Jesus Christ
God’s Building is the Mutual Abiding of God in His People and they in God
God’s Building is Built by the Growth of His Life in all the Believers
The Gifted Members Perfect All the Believers to Participate in God’s New Testament Building Work
The Gifted Members Coordinate with All the Believers for God’s New Testament Building Work
All the Believers Participate in Building God’s Building by the Growth of Divine Life in Them
God’s Building is in Heavenly, Spiritual
God’s New Testament Building is the Reality; the Old Testament Building was a Shadow
Summary: God’s New Testament building is fully brought forth in the resurrected Christ by the impartation and growth of His life in all His believers. New Jerusalem is the conclusion of this process; it is absolutely not a physical building.
