New Jerusalem, the Wife of the Lamb (3)
The New Jerusalem as the wife of the redeeming Christ has the church as her miniature. This is revealed by Paul’s word in Ephesians 5:22-32, where he speaks of the church as the counterpart of Christ. The church is actually a part of Christ, for the church comes out of Christ and is unto Christ, just as Eve came out of Adam and was unto Adam.*
The church is a part of Christ, in Christ, as stated in Romans 12:5, “we who are many are one Body in Christ.” Christ is not only the Head but He is also the Body, which cannot be separated from the Head. This is clear in 1 Corinthians 12:12, “all the members of the [physical] body, being many, are one body, so also is the Christ.”
We are members of the Body of Christ to be built together through the growth if His life in us (Eph. 4:12-13). This is both for His expression and to be the wife for His satisfaction. Both aspects consummate in New Jerusalem.
