Our Call to Be Courageous
When you consider the concept of courage, what thoughts and feelings do you experience? We define courage as the ability to face fear, danger, or uncertainty, and to do what is right even when it’s difficult. Courage manifests in different ways; sometimes it’s the physical bravery to confront danger, other times the moral strength to stand up for one’s beliefs. Let’s concentrate on moral courage, its connection to our faith, and how living with conviction affects our actions and beliefs.
Throughout Scripture, God calls his people to act courageously. God’s command in Joshua 1:9 is to “be strong and courageous.” This verse continues with the comforting promise of being with us always. But what does Christian courage, faced with modern challenges, look like for us today?
Christian courage, at its core, is the unshakable faith that God’s power can overcome any obstacle. With unwavering faith, we acknowledge God’s immeasurable power over our problems and trust that He will orchestrate a solution that brings Him glory. Daniel’s courageous prayer, whispered in defiance of the law, revealed his unwavering faith that God would deliver him. Next, we must have unwavering faith that God will intervene and bring about the desired outcome, and trust in His divine plan. We need a faith as strong as the bleeding woman’s; her touch to the hem of Jesus’ garment showed her deep belief in his healing ability. And finally, despite disappointments, our faith in God remains a quiet trust in His greater purpose. True courage rests in the conviction that God’s strength exceeds any obstacle, and that His will offer a better path than any alternative. The only way you’ll find the courage to endure hardship for righteousness is by trusting that faith in Jesus is enough.
Christian courage is the willingness to do what is right, even when facing hardship, persecution, or personal sacrifice. This belief is based on the unwavering faith that divine intervention will offer both help and protection. No matter what life throws its way, it maintains complete trust in God’s provision, knowing He is all it needs.
Question for Reflection:
1. Do you have the courage to do what is right even when facing hardship, persecution, or personal sacrifice?
