Our Daily Walk on the Golden Street
Revelation 21:21 says about New Jerusalem, “The street of the city was pure gold as transparent glass.”
The gates are for entering the city, whereas the street is for the daily walk, the daily living. The entering into the New Jerusalem as the holy city is through Christ’s death and resurrection, whereas the daily walk, the daily living, in the city is according to the divine nature, signified by the street being pure gold. This indicates that following the entrance of regeneration, the daily life and walk of the saints must be in the way of the divine nature.*
Second Peter 1:4 tells us that God “has granted to us precious and exceedingly great promises that through these you might become partakers of the divine nature.” This divine nature is in us for our participation in it (but this does NOT make us God).
This walk on the street of New Jerusalem is presented in several epistles as walking according to the spirit, which is the divine Spirit mingled with our human spirit (1 Cor. 6:17; Rom. 8:16). The Spirit supplies us with the divine nature for our partaking and this governs our walk. In this era we sometimes get distracted but in the fullness of New Jerusalem our walk will be completely on this golden street.
