Podcast - Where to Start Reading: C.S. Lewis, Bonus Episode

Two books to start with Lewis are The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and The Great Divorce.

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is an adventure that brings adults and children alike into its storyline. The characters are well-rounded and the story unpredictable. It is a stellar analogy of the Christian life because it is unknown and an adventure.

There are differing opinions when it comes to reading Narnia. The big question is: should you read in the published order or chronological order? Many read in the published order, starting with The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe to be surprised by Aslan as Lewis intended.

    The Great Divorce

The Great Divorce communicates a reversal in how people naturally think about the world. In this work, Lewis describes grass as being so real and so solid that it hurts his feet. We have been taught that the material world is real. We anthropomorphize heaven and think of God as being a human like us. The reality is that we are the ones living in a shadow. God and the heavenly realm are the ultimate and true reality. What we experience on earth is not even worth projecting up toward heaven. We live in a shadow of reality.
