Redemption for New Jerusalem (1)

Almost all Christians know that Jesus Christ is our Redeemer and that He has redeemed us from sin. A simple verse about this is Colossians 1:14, “in whom [the Son] we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” This redemption was accomplished by His death on the cross as stated in Hebrews 9:15.

New JerusalemBecause of this redemption and forgiveness, we have been justified by God. Romans 3:24 declares that all are “justified freely by [God’s] grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.” Redemption is not merely an action done by Him; we receive it “in Christ Jesus.”

In Genesis 1 God created man for His purpose, which culminates with New Jerusalem. To accomplish this, man needs God’s life, so in Genesis 2 God put man in front of the tree of life. But Satan deceived man, sin entered, and man was shut out of the garden of Eden, separated from the tree of life.

The redemption carried out by Jesus Christ gave us forgiveness of sins and fresh access to the tree of life. This life is actually Jesus Christ Himself as He stated in John 14:6.

Now that we have received Him, we have “an eternal redemption” (Heb. 9:12), we also have God’s eternal life, and we are on our way to New Jerusalem. This is Revelation 22:14, “Blessed are those who wash their robes that they may have right to the tree of life and may enter by the gates into the city [New Jerusalem]!”
