Salvation unto New Jerusalem (3C)
First Peter 1:5 assures us that we “are being guarded by the power of God through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed at the last time.” We have been saved by believing into Jesus Christ which is the first stage of our salvation. We are now in the second, continuing stage. The salvation to be revealed is the third stage, the completing stage. These three stages of salvation prepare us for New Jerusalem.
First Peter 1 also declares that although we have not yet seen Christ, we love Him and exult with joy. Then, “the end of your faith, the salvation of your souls,” which is “being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (v. 9, 13). This end of our faith is not in the sense of termination, but rather the goal, result, outcome* of our faith through our three stages of salvation.
This [in 1 Pet. 1:9] is the salvation of our souls, the salvation that is ready to be revealed to us at the last time, the grace to be brought to us at the revelation of Christ in glory (1 Pet. 1:13; Matt. 16:27; 25:31). This is the end of our faith. The power of God is able to guard us unto this that we may obtain it (v. 9). We should eagerly expect such a marvelous salvation (Rom. 8:23) and prepare ourselves for its splendid revelation (Rom. 8:19).**
The Lord Jesus will come again “with power and great glory” (Matt. 24:30). This will bring the salvation revealed at the last time and initiate His thousand year kingdom after which there will be the new heaven and new earth with New Jerusalem.
