Single parent: Will you raise your child right?

Do you find yourself grappling with the weighty concern that, as a Christian, raising your child alone might hinder their path to faith? It is a common worry among those who, due to circumstances like widowhood, divorce, or early parenthood, find themselves navigating the complexities of parenthood solo. Society, with its deeply rooted beliefs, often insists that children thrive best with both a mother and a father.

This notion's anxiety is not unfounded, especially considering that parenting is far from a stroll in the park. Yet, here you are, facing the challenge head-on. The question then becomes: Can you raise your child the right way or the godly way?

Yes, you can!

While challenges undoubtedly lie ahead, your ability to provide love, support, and guidance to your child is not diminished by your solo parenting status.

One of the hurdles you might face is the sheer demand for your time. Juggling work, household responsibilities, and your child's needs can be overwhelming. Yet, with determination and effective time management, you can find a balance that allows you to be present for your child, ensuring they feel valued and secure.

Financial strains may pose another challenge. Single parenthood often means shouldering the financial responsibilities alone. Budgeting becomes crucial, and while it may be tight at times, your commitment to providing for your child's needs showcases your strength and resilience.

Loneliness is yet another obstacle. The absence of a partner can sometimes lead to feelings of isolation. However, building a support network through friends, family, or community can help alleviate this sense of solitude. Connecting with others who understand your journey can provide emotional sustenance.

In moments of doubt, remember that being a good parent is not about perfection but sincerity and effort.

Moreover, God is with you.

In moments of anxiety, it is easy to forget God's provision, is it not? Sometimes, you may question, thinking, "Well, can He provide money to buy milk for my child?"

Doubt may creep in. It may suggest that God's support only extends spiritually and is beyond practical needs. However, it is crucial to remember that God's provision may not always manifest as money falling from the sky, but He indeed provides.

Consider the example of the widow at Zarephath. Amid a severe famine, she faced a dire situation with only a handful of flour and a little oil. The circumstances seemed impossible, and anxiety must have gripped her heart.

Yet, she demonstrated faith when the prophet Elijah asked her to make him a small cake first, assuring her that God would sustain her. Miraculously, her flour and oil did not run out until the famine ended, and not only was she sustained, but God's provision extended to her child as well.

In your moments of doubt, remember that God's provision may not always be immediate or in the form you expect. He may provide you with a job, unexpected connections, or opportunities that equate to the support you need for your child's well-being.

Trust in His timing and faithfulness, for just as He provided for the widow at Zarephath and her child, and He will provide for you and your child.

I'm a Christian who sees the church as my second home. Not only were my parents the ones who raised me, but our church elders and members also played a significant role. However, despite attending church every Sunday, I still have some questions regarding my faith. As a writer, the articles I create serve as answers to the questions I've had and continue to have, and I hope they can serve a purpose for others who are searching for the same answers.
