“But He said we would die,” the woman argued.  “And we’re still here.  What else might He have lied about?”

The man looked around.  It was true he’d never actually experienced death, but from the way he’d heard it described, he had a feeling that something ought to have changed.  Yet all seemed to be as it had always been.  Neither he nor the woman was fading from view.  The garden remained as beautiful and tranquil as ever.

Just then, a sound filled their ears.  It wasn’t anything new; in fact, it was probably the most familiar thing to them.  But this time, the sound which used to fill them with joyful anticipation instead struck terror in their hearts.  Suddenly realizing that they were exposed, the couple sought out a hiding place.  In that moment, they both knew.  Nothing would ever be the same again.

Thousands of years later, “Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day…As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me…Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying; who can understand it?”…From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. (John 6:53-66)

A common theme in each of the above is a gap in understanding.  God spoke in spiritual terms, and each time, His listeners heard the message in physical terms.  The death to which God referred in Eden was spiritual, not physical and the same for Jesus’ declaration regarding his body and blood.

After the fall, humanity was separated from God – as illustrated by the veil.  However, Jesus came to restore the fellowship that once was, thus ripping the veil apart.  Yet, humanity continues to display an inability to regard life on the spiritual plane that God resides.

Over the coming weeks, join me in an exploration of what it means to walk in the Spirit, to worship God in spirit and truth, to experience the connection with God that our creator always intended.

Thank you, Jesus for coming to show us the way back to you.  Thank you for offering yourself as the perfect sacrifice which satisfied God’s righteous judgment of sin.  Thank you for the gift of salvation and the opportunity of eternal life in and through you.  Help us to not waste this gift, but to take a hold of it and be the people you created us to be.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Happy Easter, fellow Wordzpreadians!

Be blessed,
