Five Minute Friday
Most Fridays, I join an online Christian writing community, Five Minute Friday. We are given a one-word prompt and write – unscripted, unedited, pure free-write – for 5 minutes. Five Minute Friday is a great place to hone my writing practice and be encouraged by other writers as I write. I will set the timer for five minutes and then write. Here we go! Suffer
Not one single ounce of suffering is wasted. I know this deep in my bones and yet sometimes my mind struggles to catch up with the reality.
There are too many women and young girls trapped in a cycle of suffering unlike anything I will ever know. Yet, in this I have hope that the Lord who is for the lowly and the downtrodden will not stand by without acting. I know he is caring for these injustices with even more zeal and fervor than I may ever find in my own heart. I know that he is making a way in places that to me, may only seem like there are more dead ends than inroads.
I am also aware that the creative ways with which the Lord works- can look very different than what I can imagine. I have been a part of the Noonday Collection Ambassador team for over two years now and I can see that this creative way of attending to the injustices and suffering of women and girls was not a way I had ever considered being a part of. Although, it was unexpected it has been an experience that has nurtured my love for others in beautiful ways. I am paying attention to my spending habits as well as asking accountable questions to the retailers I choose to shop from. Who made this piece that I want to invest in? How will the makers whose hands touched these pieces will be compensated? Will they get to spend time gathering their community to flourish together or are they enslaved in job schemes that steal their dignity?
If you would have asked me about this just a mere 6 years ago I wouldn’t have known much but I am grateful for Noonday Collection and their good work of spending themselves for the poor and lowly.
