Teen Devotionals: Self Acceptance
Sometimes, I really hate mirrors. It’s such a great tool to point out someone’s many flaws and insecurities, and whoever made it knew what they were doing. In fact who can I blame except my parents and God?
As a teen, I can emphasize a lot about trying to look good. “Hey God, you could’ve just taken away __ or __ and I would’ve been perfectly satisfied. We all know words hurt more than anything, and the mouth is our truly greatest weapon. While we are saying these hurtful things, we lack resilience ourselves, and soon we resort to seeking attention. I must say, in my life, I’ve seen many people say in front of me, “I’m so ugly...” I’ve said this quite a lot of times but here we go again; “You're beautiful. You are *the* manly man. Let me remind you, that saying you're ugly is like saying it to your parents, as well as insulting God’s most precious and beautiful creation. Don’t blame yourself, it wasn’t your fault or anyone else’s, it’s high time that you start accepting yourself.
[Psalm 139:14] *“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.“*
Spoiler Alert! You are created in the image of God, and what he creates is *good*. Good is referring to many things, but the list may go on and on. We must be the ones who have both physical self-confidence and spiritual self-confidence. Look in that mirror and smile. Unique, one of a kind, you have your special qualities. You will always be beautiful, but make sure your heart is beautiful as well. Perhaps while you're working on your dissatisfaction, check up on your soul, and your spiritual life. Are you living like a child of God?
Remember who created you, made you, and that he alone should be glorified and exalted forever and ever. Count your blessings, and at the same time focus on other things. One thing’s for sure; time is extremely precious, and spend your time in a way where you won’t regret anything. Help your parents out, tell them you love them every day, and entrust your life to God’s hands.
