The Divine Kingship and Priesthood in New Jerusalem

The last part of Revelation 22:3 says, “His slaves shall serve Him” and 22:5 ends  “they shall reign forever and ever.”

In the New Jerusalem we will partake of the divine kingship and priesthood….In the New Jerusalem for eternity we will reign as kings over the nations that will be on the new earth.
The pronoun “Him” in this verse [22:3] refers to God and to the Lamb; God and the Lamb are one in eternity. In eternity we shall serve God and the Lamb. This verse indicates that we will serve God as priests. For eternity in the New Jerusalem, all the believers will participate in the priesthood.*

New JerusalemThe divine kingship and priesthood of New Jerusalem is also in 1 Peter 2:9, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood.” And in Revelation 5:10, a part of the heavenly song of praise to the Lamb is “You…have made them a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign on the earth.”

As with all the other blessings in New Jerusalem, we should pursue the foretaste of the kingship and priesthood today. In Revelation 1:9 John introduced himself as “your brother and fellow partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and endurance in Jesus.” He was already living in the kingdom. And 1 Peter 2:5 identifies us as a corporate priesthood to serve God now.

Praise Him who brought us into the kingdom and priesthood!

Do You Feel Accepted or Rejected?

I went to bed, pulled the covers over my head, and had a big ole pity party. Once again, I had been rejected…come in second place…told I wasn’t quite what “they” were looking for. The scarlet letter loomed large. It wasn’t an A like Hester Prynne’s in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book I had read in high school, but a big fat R that I chose to wear when life turned ugly. Read more...
