The Flow of Life to Accomplish God’s Purpose

New Jerusalem has “a river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb in the middle of its street. And on this side and on that side of the river was the tree of life, producing twelve fruits” (Rev. 22:1-2a).

The throne is the very source from which the river of water   life flows, and it flows with the tree of life growing in it. The throne for the accomplishment of God’s eternal purpose is to flow out God Himself so that by this flow of life His purpose could be accomplished.*    55

New JerusalemThe flow of life brings to us God in Christ as our eternal life. In Matthew 5:48 the Lord Jesus instructed us “be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.” His use of the word Father indicates that we have a life relationship with the Father. We can be perfect because His perfect life has come into us.

This life is not static; it is not a thing. This life is active in us to guide us, to empower us, to grow in us, and to perfect us. This active life is portrayed by the flowing river of life in Revelation 22:1. When we are supplied by the river, we are under the throne, and when we are under the authority of the throne, we are in the river. This is the experience of New Jerusalem today!
