The New Jerusalem is a New Creation in Christ
In Revelation 21:1 John tells us, “I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and the sea is no more.” This is the fullness of the new creation.
The New Jerusalem is a living composition of all of God’s redeemed people, including the New Testament believers and the Old Testament saints. All the redeemed ones composed together are a new creation in Christ, and this new creation has the divine element. The divine element has been wrought into the new creation. Second Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, they have become new.”*
In 2 Corinthians all the believers in Christ are a new creation. These are being built together to be the Body of Christ today and New Jerusalem in eternity. First Corinthians 3, Ephesians 2 and 4, and 1 Peter 2 are key chapters about this building process.
This building is also growing because the building is in life, the resurrection life. There is no sea in the new creation and there is no death in New Jerusalem. Everything is in the divine, eternal life which we have already received.
Lord, grant us daily to gain You as our life supply that we may grow to fullness for New Jerusalem.
