Do you believe in wishes and driving away fears and anxieties? You could have written your aspirations at the New York City annual Wishing Wall at Times Square.

The New York Wishing Wall and the famous Ball Drop

New York City is well-known as the capital city that never sleeps. Two iconic traditions whisper stories of hope and revelry among the towering steel giants and buzzing crowds. They are the New York Wishing Wall and the Times Square Ball Drop.

As the clock ticks towards midnight, the energy in Times Square electrifies. Millions gather, united by the anticipation of a fresh start. Then, amidst the fireworks and confetti, a massive, glittering sphere descends, marking the dawning of a new year. The iconic Ball Drop is a spectacle, a joyous roar that reverberates through the city and across the globe.

But amid the festivity, the Wishing Wall stands as a whisper. A reminder that before the cheers and fireworks, hopes were written onto silk, anxieties etched in faded ink. It's a bridge between the joy of the New Year and the quiet introspection of changing anxieties into hope.

The NYE Wishing Wall is an annual tradition that unites participants worldwide to share their hopes and dreams for the year ahead. During December, you can write on one or several pieces of confetti between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. until the 29th. Anything written on the 29th or later will be printed for the following year. If you'd like to have your wish flutter down on New Year's for the world to see but are curious if you'll make it to Midtown, there's also a digital option.

The wall's origins are shrouded in time, its first wishes whispered decades ago by Chinese immigrants seeking solace and prosperity in a new land. Over the years, it has transformed into a melting pot of aspirations, attracting people from all walks of life, all united by a single thread of hope.

The Wishing Wall and the Ball Drop are two faces of New York City, the yin and yang of human experience. One whispers hope and fears, and the other celebrates fresh beginnings. Together, they portray a city that thrives on dreams and stumbles through anxieties but ultimately embraces the promise of a new year.

Cast your anxieties on Him, not on a wall

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

- 1 Peter 5:6-7

As the New Year approaches, amid the dazzling lights and the tangible enthusiasm, an alternative to the customary act of making wishes on the renowned Wishing Wall emerges. Rather than placing dreams and concerns on a concrete structure, a timeless tradition exists of transferring one's worries to a higher force, specifically Jesus.

In a world frequently marked by unpredictability and obstacles, numerous individuals discover consolation in their faith, seeking solace in Jesus as a reassuring and comforting figure. The act of transferring anxieties to Jesus is an expression of surrender, recognizing a divine presence that surpasses the constraints of earthly structures.

While the Wishing Wall may offer a communal expression, casting fears and anxieties into hope on Jesus carries a deeply personal dimension. It's an intimate conversation with God, a moment of vulnerability where one releases burdens and seeks guidance.

Unlike the fleeting nature of wishes tied to ribbons, casting anxieties in Jesus provides a sense of enduring peace. Faith affirms that, regardless of the challenges ahead, there is a source of strength and love that remains constant. Ultimately, your New Year should reflect your aspirations and bring you joy in Christ.
