The One Thing
Inspiration from Psalms 27
By Tanja
David is proclaiming what he will do in Psalms 27. He says;
My heart will not fear. (verse 3)
God will keep me safe. (verse 5)
“I will sing and make music to the Lord.” (verse 6)
I will seek you, Lord. (verse 8)
Teach me Your ways, Lord. (verse 11)
“I will see the goodness of the Lord, in the land of the living.” (verse 13)
Are you a positive thinker and do you believe the best? When God is the source of our strength, He can give us the hope we need.
Right now, what do you need above anything else? What is the one thing? In a year that has been uncertain and the future unclear. Suppose you were to ask for the one thing. What would it be? What could you not live without in your life? When so many things have gone wrong in; your day, your week, this year, your life; what is something that you can be hopeful for, now?
Do you have hope?
King David was a man of responsibility. He was the ruler of a kingdom. Therefore, as a ruler, he had a lot of pressure. He wanted the best for the people of the land, yet he knew that he would face adversary. Could that adversary be constant and daily? There was real trouble that he had to face.
But he knew the one thing that he wanted. He wanted; “to dwell in the House of the Lord all the days of his life to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” (verse 4) That was David’s “deepest desire.”[1] David desired a close relationship with God because he knew that was where he would be strengthened, and that is where his hope would come. Being close to God was the key to success and wholeness in his life. The Lord’s presence was a place of security. [2]

The Lord’s presence is closer than you think. God can be the one thing that is constant and dependable. When there is shifting and turning, God’s presence is the place of refuge and peace. Wholeness is found in the one true God: Jesus.
