The River of New Jerusalem is in Us Now

A river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb in the middle of [New Jerusalem’s] street. (Rev. 22:1)

The flow is the Triune God as life flowing within us, and this life is the consummated, all-inclusive, life-giving, and dispensing Spirit spoken of in John 7:38 and 39.
In verse 38 the Lord Jesus says, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.” These rivers of living water are the many flows of the different aspects of the divine life, which is God’s Spirit of life.*

New JerusalemJohn 7:39 tells us that “the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.” Luke 24:26 and 46 proclaim that for Jesus to be glorified is for Him to be resurrected.

The Spirit of God was present in Genesis 1 but the Spirit of Jesus Christ (Phil. 1:19) with both divinity and His wonderful humanity with its death and resurrection was not present until the He was raised. At that time, in resurrection (the subject of 1 Cor. 15) “the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit” (15:45).

This Spirit imparts the divine life into us at our regeneration that it may grow in us and bring us fully into New Jerusalem.
