The Triune God Lives in His People and His People Live in Him 60

The New Testament is focused on a mingling of the Triune God and His people. This was made possible by the incarnation, human living, redeeming death, and life-imparting resurrection of the Lord Jesus.

New JerusalemThe base of this mingling is the Three of the Triune God. Jesus spoke of this in John 14:10-11, “I am in the Father and the Father is in Me.” In resurrection this mingling expands to include His believers as He stated in 14:20, “In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.”

This is also presented in the epistles. One aspect is Romans 8:1 and 1 Corinthians 1:29-30 which says it is of God that we “are in Christ Jesus.” The other aspect is in Romans 8:10 and 2 Corinthians 13:5, “Jesus Christ is in you.” New Jerusalem is the consummation of the Bible and the ultimate realization of this mingling.

The holy city in which we will participate and which we will enjoy is the processed and consummated Triune God mingled with all His saints. In this one entity, the holy city, we will enjoy not only the Triune God but will also enjoy the Triune God in all the saints. This means that we will enjoy the Triune God in one another and that we will enjoy one another in the Triune God.*
