The Wall of New Jerusalem

Revelation 21:17 says, “he [an angel] measured its wall, a hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel.”

New JerusalemToday can we say that the measure of a man is that of an angel? No, never. At what time will the measure of a man be equal to that of an angel? The Lord Jesus said that in the resurrection man will be equal to the angels (Luke 20:36). The one hundred and forty-four cubits will be revealed when man’s measure is equal to an angel’s measure. In other words, everything within this city is in the reality of resurrection. Thank God, of all the things included in this city, there is nothing which is not in resurrection.*

New Jerusalem is fully in resurrection because it is fully saturated with the divine, eternal life, the life which is resurrection.

The Lord Jesus asked us to deny our soul-life (Matt. 16:25-26; Mark 8:35-37). We should deny our fallen human life and take the Lord as our life and live Him day by day. This is a life in faith, expressed in Galatians 2:20, “…it is Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

When we live Christ, as in Philippians 1:21, we magnify Him (v. 20). This is God’s purpose in creating man—that we deny ourself and live Christ to magnify Him rather than ourselves. New Jerusalem will be the greatest and brightest magnification.
