The Wolf And A Lamb In The End Times

In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together; the leopard will lie down with the baby goat. The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion, and a little child will lead them all.” Isaiah 11:6

When Isaiah wrote about the wolf and a lamb living together, he referred to “that day.” What day? The prophet said that many things, very much out of the norm, would happen at that time.

Access to cable TV and online streaming allows us to observe nature closer than ever before. We have learned that all species fit somewhere in the natural order of the food chain.

We know lambs, goats, and calves don’t socialize with wolves, leopards, and lions. The first three rank low on the food chain, while the others rank close to the top.

The Bible indicates that the present food chain among animals will cease to exist. Why? How will that happen? When will “that day” come?

What the prophet described can only happen during the Millennium, the 1000-year reign of Christ. At that time, Jesus will have complete rule over the earth along with His saints.

Isaiah 11 begins with a prophecy of the extension of David’s throne. This prophetic word came three hundred years after David’s death.

Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot—yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root. Isaiah 11:1

This new branch growing from the lineage of David, of course, is Jesus!

    Characteristics of Christ

Before Isaiah went into more detail about the animals like the wolf and the lamb, he spoke about Christ. He described the characteristics of Jesus in three categories.

First, he wrote about Christ’s relationship with His Spirit. Then, he commented on His humanitarian traits. Thirdly, the prophet described the power of Jesus and its effects.

    His Spirit

    • And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him.
    • The Spirit of wisdom and understanding.
    • The Spirit of counsel and might.
    • And the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2

    The Humanitarian Traits of Christ

    • He will delight in obeying the Lord.
    • He will not judge by appearance.
    • Nor make a decision based on hearsay.
    • He will give justice to the poor.
    • And make fair decisions for the exploited. Isaiah 11:3-4

    His Power

    • The earth will shake at the force of his word.
    • And one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked.
    • He will wear righteousness like a belt.
    • And truth like an undergarment. Isaiah 11:4-5

Jesus had come once, and He will come again. He’s always had the characteristics described by Isaiah. His earthly role the second time, though, will differ from the first time He came.

Let me explain what I’m talking about. The first time, He came as a newborn baby. He came to serve. Next time, He will come as a conquering warrior riding on a white horse.

After the Battle of Armageddon, He will set up His 1000-year reign. So, Jesus came first to serve, then to conquer, and in His third role, He will rule the earth.

As the prophet Isaiah continued, he said little children would lead animals they would usually fear. Along with animals such as the wolf and the lamb, he added more unnatural happenings.

The cow will graze near the bear. The cub and the calf will lie down together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. The baby will play safely near the hole of a cobra. Yes, a little child will put its hand in a nest of deadly snakes without harm. Isaiah 11:7-8

In other words, these things won’t just sporadically happen. They will become the new norm during the 1000-year reign of Christ.

If you follow any news about the Middle East, it seems like conflicts constantly plague the entire region. They have gone on for centuries. But during the Millennium, that will all change.

Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, for as the waters fill the sea, so the earth will be filled with people who know the Lord. Isaiah 11:9

What Does the Wolf and a Lamb have to do with Me?

    Wolf and Lamb

John the Revelator revealed the two groups of people who will reign with Christ. One group consists of those raptured. The ones He caught up in the clouds to meet Him in the air.

So, we might want to ask ourselves why this information is important to us. Because only those who share in the first resurrection will reign with the Lord during these 1000 years.

Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years. Revelation 20:6

The other group consists of those who died for Christ during the seven-year tribulation. They missed the rapture but died as a direct result of their testimony for Christ.

And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years. Revelation 20:4

    Live for Jesus Now!

Live for Jesus now, so you don’t miss the rapture when He calls the church home. Paul said, in a split second, the dead in Christ will rise first, followed by those living for Him.

The only alternative happens after the rapture of the church, during the seven-year tribulation. It will force people to make a choice. The easy one will send them to hell.

That choice involves taking the mark of the beast. Those who take it may buy and sell. They can pay their bills and live openly. But in the end, they will not make it to heaven.

During that time, some will turn to Christ. They must refuse, however, to take the mark of the beast and openly proclaim their testimony. They will die by decapitation.

I have to say, living for Christ today will be much easier than dying for Him during the tribulation. So, now is the time to turn your life to Jesus.

Lord, thank you for your promise of salvation. I look forward to reigning with you when the wolf and lamb live together. Help us to be effective witnesses today in drawing others to you.
