Thirsty?

“The woman said
to him, Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming
here to draw water.”
(John 4:15)

Fresh, pure
water is one of the greatest physical needs in the world today.  According to the World Health Organization,
663 million people, or 1 in 10, lack access to safe water around the world. It’s
important for drinking, washing clothing and eating utensils, and bathing.

When Alice and
I ministered in India, one of the greatest needs in thousands of villages
across the country was fresh water wells.
Lack of clean water leads to a wide variety of health issues, and even
death among the young and elderly.

Yet,
there is an even greater need! Through digging wells and providing fresh
drinking water for people, God opened the door to explaining how their
spiritual thirst could be completely quenched by the Water of Life.

There is a continuing
pattern and promise in scripture; those who come to Him thirsty are promised to
have their thirst satisfied. I wonder how thirsty you might be. On a scale of 1
to 10, with 10 being the highest, how thirsty are you for God to work in and
through you during your mission journey?

It doesn’t seem
to matter where I am on a mission trip, whether in rural Georgia, interior of
Alaska, or in the heart of India, thirsty people are everywhere. It seems that
these are the ones that God puts in your path on any mission trip. Sometimes
they are poor or rich, and sometimes young or old, but their thirst is obvious.

They don’t all
decide to have their thirst satisfied. Some are like the rich, young man
(Matthew 19:16-22) who came to Jesus, thirsty, but unwilling to drink from the
Living Water because of what it will cost them.

You are going
to encounter some thirsty people along your journey, and God is sending you to
give them a cup of cold water in His name. But what about you, are you thirsty?
Will you have your thirst satisfied? Are you willing to pay the cost to have it
satisfied?

“Blessed are
those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they will be filled.”
(Matthew 5:6)

What will it be that God
asks of you to have your thirst satisfied?
