Thoughts for a Christian Considering an Abortion - Today Can Be Different
If you’re a Christian considering abortion, I can imagine your conflicting emotions.
Most likely you were staunchly pro-life before your pregnancy test, and it sickens you to watch your convictions slide. You can’t even bring yourself to say you’re pro-choice because in your heart you’re pro-life. Just not as staunchly as you were a few weeks ago.
Because very soon, the evidence of the choice you made in a moment of passion will begin to show. What will people say? Especially your church friends?
Your heart wants to do the right thing, but you’re so afraid.
If you’re a Christ-follower and find yourself oxymoron-ly considering abortion, I implore you to seek that place in your relationship with God you once enjoyed. Think back to the time you wanted to please your heavenly Father above all else. When you were certain that Almighty God would never abandon you and that you could always go to Him whenever you needed His mercy and grace.
Many factors brought you to this moment, but I’m hoping you’ll ask God for the grace to do the hard thing. The thing your heart is nudging you to do.
I realize this is a big ask, but if you keep your heart and thoughts on God and His Word, you’ll find the strength to make the right decisions for you and your baby.
- Begin today to pray for God to give you a love for your child.
- Find someone you trust to pray with you that God will provide everything you need and to be ready for the task ahead.
Rather than ending this new life, ask God for the strength to see it through. Allow Him to grow your faith on every level. Discover God’s will and the amazing miracle of His creation forming within you.
The sobering truth is that if you allow your baby to live, your life will change. Undeniably and profoundly so. But God, Who never changes, will faithfully remain as close to you as you will allow Him to be. Trust Him for the future.
You do have a choice.
You can choose to do the “easy” and quick thing: to end this growing life – your child’s life.
Or you can return to the place you once enjoyed as a child of God.
Perhaps reading this reassuring verse will help you get to that place: Hebrews 4:16 (ESV)
Draw near to the throne of grace, that [you] may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
… And then, maybe, you can make the choice your heart wants you to make.
What about you?
