Through His Poverty

As we approach Christmas, once again I ponder the coming of the Son of God.

The day of His visitation was foretold. In eternity He was not bound by any means.  At the right time, He entered a world that would now limit Him.

When He created this world, He knew one day He would come to die for His people. These were not good or righteous people. Rather, they were His enemies, sinful and ungodly. He made this decision in eternity before anyone was born.

Angels dwell with God in inapproachable light and see His greatness. They perceived the enormous gravity of what was about to take place.

It’s hard to fathom this mysterious plan. He is the Righteous One through whom the universe was made and the brightness of God’s glory. Yet, the Infinite One would lay down His crown and take off His royal robe to become a finite man. At the same time, He was the exact representation of God as He walked the earth.

We who are lower than the angels – let us marvel.

Jesus, “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness. Then, when He had by Himself purged our sins on the cross, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”

By Himself. Only God could do this for us and no one made Him do it. He said no one takes My life, I lay it down of My own accord for My sheep.

Christian friend remember He does not give aid to fallen angels, but He came for fallen man. Now humbly admire His mission and purpose. Wonder at His joy and satisfaction!

“Surely, He took up our pain and bore our suffering. Yet we considered Him punished by God, stricken by Him and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was on Him.”

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”

“For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame.”

“After He has suffered, He will see the light of life and be satisfied.”

Merry Christmas!

“Lord Jesus, our feeble words cannot express how thankful we are that You took an interest in such lowly, sinful people. We praise and honor You – our great and worthy King – for Your indescribable gift!
