TREASURED BY GOD

1 Peter 2:9

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: I am special to God because You chose me to be Your child through Jesus Christ.

If we’re honest with ourselves, we don’t often believe we’re special or treasured. We often think of ourselves as worthless, undervalued, easily overlooked.

I know this feeling. At one point, I thought I was of no value to anyone, much less to God. I saw myself as worthless because I had made a mess of my life in college. I had paid more attention to my social life, and all its enticements, than to my studies, and I eventually flunked out.

To say that I felt like garbage is an understatement. I was thoroughly humiliated and felt so stupid. What would people think of me? What was I going to do with my life? How was I going to “make something of myself”? My worth, I believed at that point, was in that degree, in that future job I was to get. Those things would give me value, make me valued.

Not so, said God. My value is not in any degree, occupation, or accomplishment. I am treasured because I am a child redeemed by the blood of Jesus. I am special because of my standing in Christ: righteous and justified. No longer a sinner, but a saint.

Is it the same with you? Do you feel like you’re trash because of the poor, immoral, or unethical choices you’ve made?

God can redeem them. He loves you and believes you’re worth saving. He values you. You’re special to Him. He can—and will!—make treasure out of your trash.

Tell yourself today, and every day, “I am treasured by God.”
