When your cheater is a pastor or therapist... - Divorce Minister

Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.

-Hebrews 13:4, NLT

Letting go and trusting a cheater to God is tough.

I think this is especially so when the cheater counsels others and works in a field where they probably encounter other faithful spouses dealing with adultery.

In particular, I think it is tough to trust God to handle cheating pastors and cheating therapists.

It is sickening to me knowing how faithful spouses who are divorced are often put through the ringer with denominations and churches whereas the actual cheaters seem to be given a pass.

But they do not get a pass with God.

Never forget that.

What gives me peace in this matter is knowing my God is someone who keeps His word. That includes Hebrews 13:4. He is more than able to deal with an unrepentant cheater.

And that includes unrepentant cheaters who are pastors or therapists.

When we choose to hand over a cheater to God, we need to remember we have made that choice. And we can trust in God’s unchanging character. That He is just, wise, and loving. He can handle the situation.

Our job is let go, trust Him, and get busy living into the special call God has on our lives and future.

    It’s Going to Be Okay

It was one of the worst days of my life. Tragedy struck our family in the worst way and I was emotionally paralyzed. That’s when my friend, Mary, stepped in to do what I couldn’t. She made me a hotel reservation, called the necessary people, and said, “It’s going to be okay.” “It’s going to be okay” is one of the most hope-filled sentiments I can offer to others, Read more...
