Where is God When You Need Him?

Allow me to first issue a caution that this is a brief
and limited look at what can be a very broad theme.  And I’m only touching on one small facet of
this topic.

Let’s begin by looking at Psalm 77:7-9a which says, “Will
the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing
love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten
to be merciful…?”

If you’re feeling far away from God, guess who moved?  Do
you ever feel like God’s least present when you seem to need Him most?

How many times have we looked at life and wondered where
God was when we need Him.  We look at all
the things going wrong around us, and ask ourselves how a loving, merciful God
could let these things happen.  In fact, many
atheists base most of their arguments on one question in particular.  They want to challenge God by asking, "Why
would a loving God allow pain and suffering?"

But maybe it isn't God we should be questioning, but rather ourselves.  The Bible says that God allows us to make our
own choices; some choices glorify Him and bless us, and others cause pain and
suffering.

The Apostle Paul reminds us, “Do not be deceived: God
cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his
sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to
please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
(Galatians 6:7-10)

I once read that it's when we walk away from the light that things start to get
dark.  It wasn't the light that changed,
or dimmed, but rather our decision to place a greater distance between it and
ourselves.

Today, how can you become closer to the light?  Instead of focusing on all the terrible things
that have happened, how can you bring good into the world, and show others the
light of God?  A God who has not forsaken
us, or forgotten His promises, but instead patiently waits for us to return to
Him under our own free will, so that He may bless us and restore us.  (See Luke 15:11-24)
