Why did Jesus weep?

Why did Jesus weep?

Posted on June 22, 2012 Updated on June 19, 2012

“Jesus Wept”, is the shortest verse of the Holy Bible, and it describes the feeling of Jesus when he saw two of his disciples-Martha and Mary weeping over the death of their brother-Lazarus. Several Jews were also gathered weeping and mourning over Lazarus’s death..

This is probably the only verse in the Bible why Jesus is recorded to have wept. But why wasJesus so much groaned in his spirit that he wept?

Jesus wept because he is a compassionate and loving Master who is touched by our infirmities. He shares our sorrows and pains, therefore when he saw two of his disciples mourning; his humane nature caused him to join in the weeping. Jesus was groaned in his spirit and wept in anger against Satan who is the cause of most afflictions including death.

The death of Lazarus was the handiwork of Satan whose chief mission in the world is to steal, to kill, and to destroy (John 10 vs.10). Jesus is not happy about the evils that befall mankind in the world and in contrary to the mission of Satan; Jesus came to destroy all works of Satan and to restore abundant life to all.

Another reason that Jesus wept was because of the unbelief of his disciples- Mary and Martha, and also the Jews gathered in the house mourning over the death of Lazarus. Jesus was actually told of Lazarus sicknesses about two days before his death, but He delayed his coming to Bethany, which Lazarus lived. When Jesus, the miracle worker eventually arrived, Martha the Sister of Lazarus said unto Jesus. “ If thou hadst been here, my brother had not died”.

Even when Jesus responded that: “Thy brother shall rise again”, Martha was unbelieving and said: “I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day” (John 11 vs.24). The Jews who were also gathered there in mourning also expressed similar unbelief when Jesus decided to go to the grave of Lazarus.

But to the glory of God, when Jesus got to Lazarus grave, he commanded the stone that covered the grave to be rolled away, and Jesus commanded the death Lazarus to come forth, and he that was death for several days rose on his feet, and came back to life.

The weeping of Jesus disciples was turned into Joy as Lazarus came back to life.
This is one of the most outstanding miracles of Jesus Christ on earth and aptly demonstrated his divinity, his power over laws of nature, his capacity to bring back to life and resurrect any death being, and also affirms Biblical account that God will on the last day bring every dead back to life to face Judgement, and end up either in heaven or hell. .

Are you weeping over any burdens you are going through? Jesus wept and He is still weeping with you in compassion and because of your unbelief. If only you can become his disciple like Mary and Martha, your tears will turned to joy. If only you can believe in him, you will see the glory of God, and come out of the grave back to life.

Jesus says;” I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me though he were dead, yet shall live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believeth thou this?” -John 11vs.25-26

Do you want to be reconciled with God, through Jesus the Lord and Saviour? Then say this simple prayer:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and have fallen short of your glory. I genuinely repent from all my sins and pledge to go and sin no more. I accept your plan to reconcile mankind to you through Jesus Christ, who you sent in your name.

I believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and died on the Cross to pay the penalty for my sins and redeem me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I pray that His blood washes my sins away. I invite the Holy Spirit to rule my Life. I am born again in Jesus name.

Prophetic Declarations

I will stop weeping over my afflictions and in turn unto Jesus. Tears cannot bring me out of my problems, only Jesus can. I speak to my spirit today- weep not. I see Jesus intervening in my situation, I see myself coming out of the grave. Though I may dead now financially or physically, I will rise again .
Prayers

Power that resurrected Lazarus from the grave, visit me now in Jesus name.

Jesus, the miracle worker, speak to my deadness now.
Power of resurrection in Christ Jesus, loose me and let me go
I speak to my destiny, come out of the grave in Jesus name.
Spirit of grave and death, release me now in Jesus name
