Why does God trust us with small things?

Small things matter, but not all people value and understand the power of being entrusted with small things. We all wanted to have great things instantly.

Yet, when we fully realize how to maximize every little thing, we can experience massive transformations.

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” - Luke 16:10

How do we handle small things? How we use our time, money, and gifts could determine how God can trust us in big things.

Jesus said that whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much. But why does God need to trust us with small things first?

Why does God trust us with small things?

Most of us feel discouraged about having little and blinded to see the bigger picture. So we do nothing but complain to God.

To further explain why God needs to trust us with small things, let us discover some reasons.

Test your faithfulness

Can we handle great things faithfully?

If God trusted us with a bit of talent, money, and influence, would we maximize them to produce more?
Jesus Christ gave a clear example of faithfulness in the little things in Matthew 25:14-23. Before the master went on a trip, he gave his servants bags of silver.

He gave one of his servants five bags of silver, then two for the other, and one bag for the last servant.

Those who received five and two bags invested their money and received twice as much as they got. However, the one with one bag dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.

When the master returned, he was pleased to hear what the first two servants had done with his money. The master said, “Well done, my good and faithful servants.”

If God entrusts us with small things, He only wants to see if we can be faithful enough to handle more and more enormous treasures.

For instance, can we still faithfully give our tithes if we receive more substantial income? Or can we still serve and be generous to others if God has given us more?

Jesus Christ emphasized in Matthew 25:29 that to those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance.

Still, those who do nothing, even with the little they have, will have it taken away.

Check your attitude

When the master knew what the third servant did with the little amount he gave, he was disappointed and angry.

The worst part is that the third servant told his master that he knew his master would be harsh for harvesting crops he did not plant and cultivate.

Moreover, the servant given one bag was so afraid to lose the money that he hid it. The master told him angrily that he could have deposited his money in the bank to get some interest.

Thus, the master got mad and took the money he had given the third servant. (Matthew 25:24-28)

Some of us are like the third servant. We complain about having little and fear losing it.

If we cannot be grateful for the little, we have, how much more if we have more? Can we still remember God?

More so, if God has given us a few gifts or talents and cannot handle our attitude, how can He give us more? Besides, can we still see the good in everything with the little that we have?

Thus, God refined our hearts and minds through small things so we could still please Him once He gave us more extraordinary things.

To depend more on Him more

Maybe you are wondering why God trusts us with small riches here on earth while others who do not believe in Him enjoy bountiful treasures.

Some non-believers succeed in their lives while we, followers of Christ, suffer with the little we have.

However, Psalms 37:1-2 emphasize that we should not worry about the wicked or those who do wrong because they will soon fade away like grass and spring flowers that will quickly wither.

Nevertheless, those who trust the Lord and do good will live safely and prosper.

More so, they should not fret and be still in the presence of the Lord as they wait patiently for His works.

Imagine having all the great things in the world.

Would we still be interested in trusting in God with all our hearts and minds?

However,  with the little that we have, we can realize how much we need God in our lives. We develop our trust in Him in small things.

We learn to hope and wait in Him, knowing He will help and sustain us.

To value everything you have

Most children born with a silver spoon do not know how to value everything they have. Still, those who need to work hard to have more know how to appreciate everything they receive.

They would appreciate more incredible things coming their way because they know how difficult it is to earn more.

Nevertheless, those with wealthy parents take everything for granted because they know that they still have more.

Therefore, God trusts us with small things so we will know the value of everything. We take good care of things that come from hard work and perseverance.

To make us responsible

If we cannot be responsible for small things, how much more for incredible things?

God wants us to be accountable because He knows there is danger waiting if we cannot handle more important things.

Moreover, success does not come overnight. Successful people experience little progress toward reaching their destination.

They changed their mindset and habits gradually so they could handle their success.

In addition, failure awaits those not responsible enough to handle more enormous blessings.

Thus, God wants you to be reliable and capable of dealing with more incredible things, so He first develops your character before giving it to you.

More so, if we know that we only have little time here on earth, we would be responsible enough to value each moment with our family and spend it serving the Lord.

To see things in a bigger picture

When we have little, God wants us to realize that we must set our minds on things above. We learned that success takes time to come to us, especially for doubtful and skeptical people.

God teaches us to have greater faith when we have little. This reminds us of what matters and gives us the wisdom to believe that there are more incredible things that our eyes cannot see.

More importantly, with the little things that we have, God shows His miracles to prove His unfailing love for us.

We may suffer and thrive with the small things and get tired and disappointed. But it will all be worth it and priceless once God entrusts us with more.

Having great things with God

Nothing is better than having great things with God than having plenty without Him. King Solomon, the wisest king, said that all items are just a chase of the wind and meaningless without God’s presence.

Thus, we should not fret and feel down when we have little. Instead, let us maximize what we have and entrust it to God.

Then, we would see how God works amazingly to make small things more extraordinary than we could imagine.
