Why Read the Bible Daily ? - Part 2 - Pursuing Intimacy With God

Why Read The Bible Daily ?

In Part 1 of Why Read The Bible Daily ? we began to look at the many important reasons you should read your Bible and spend time with God daily. Now we will continue to look at other reasons you should, and how you can benefit from your time with God.

Hearing God’s voice is the most important part of your prayer & fellowship time with God. It is absolutely vital to have intimacy with God. You cannot have intimate fellowship with God, and become one with God without hearing God’s voice. And you cannot have a partnership with God in His great Kingdom work if you do not reverently listen to Him. You need to read God’s word the Bible daily and seek God with all your heart to know God. And to know God’s calling on your life.

In John 10 Jesus tells us that His “sheep” or true followers know His voice and they follow Him. You cannot truly know and follow Jesus unless you can hear His voice. And unless He reveals Himself and His ways and His will to you.

John 10:4 “When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.”

John 10:27 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

Why Read The Bible Daily ?

The Bible Teaches You The Truth

Truth is not a concept, or a philosophy. And truth is not a religion or doctrine. Truth is a Person. Jesus Christ.

If you want to learn truth, then you need to get to know Jesus personally. That will take time and effort. But it is very well worth the investment of your time.

In John 14:6 Jesus tells you that He is the Way, He is the Truth, and He is the Life. Because Jesus is Truth, anything and everything He tells you is the truth. You need to spend time with the Truth so that you will know truth, especially spiritual truth. Then you will never be misled, and you will be able to discern what is truth and what is not truth.

John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”

Acts 17:11 ” Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.”

Why Read The Bible Daily ? – Beware Of False Teachers

These days you need to be very careful and read God’s word the Bible daily. So that you will not be deceived by false teachers. There are many false teachers and churches that are not preaching and teaching God’s word the truth. There is always a little of the truth or the Bible in their messages. But they are more interested in having positive feel good messages that attract more and more people to become members of their church.

Matthew 24:24 “For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

Acts 20:28-30 “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.”

2 Timothy 4:3 “The time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.”

Why Read The Bible Daily ? – The Bible Will Set You Free

God’s word the Bible was sent by God to help us in our lives. To warn us, and to guide us away from the physical and spiritual dangers of the world.

And the Bible was sent by God to free people. Free people from all kinds of things. From fear, anxiety, depression, insecurity, deception, sin, vices…

John 8:31-32 “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

What do you need to be set free from ? Do you need to be set free from fear ? Anxiety ? Worry ? Deception & lies ? Insecurity ? Depression ? Discouragement ? Sin ? Something else ? Run to Jesus and His Word – He wants to set you to know Him- Truth, and Jesus wants to set you free !!!

Why Read The Bible Daily ? – To Become A Person Of Honor & Glory

God wants the very best for you and your life. And He very much wants you to become the best person you can be. His goal for you is very lofty. To become like Jesus. A person of high integrity. Holy. Righteous. Honest. Loving. Good. Faithful. Honorable. And sharing in Jesus’ glory.

2 Corinthians 3:18 “To all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the LORD’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the LORD, who is the Spirit.”

Ephesians 5:25-26 “…just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word.”

Romans 8:28-29 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son”

Romans 12:1-2 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

How Can You Be Holy And Pure ?

Psalm 119:9 “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.”

God wants you to be a special and holy person of glory, completely set apart from evil and the things of the world. He also wants you to become the very best person you can be, which in God’s definition is to become more and more like Jesus. Holy like Jesus; loving like Jesus, joyful like Jesus, kind like Jesus, patient like Jesus, faithful to God like Jesus, passionate about God like Jesus, and passionate about reaching the lost like Jesus (see 1 Timothy 2:4, Luke 19:10 and Matthew 4:19)

Why Read The Bible Daily ? – God Encourages And Assures You In His Word

God does not want you to be a weak, discouraged Christian. God wants you to be strong. And victorious and fruitful. And always hopeful, even in difficult circumstances.

“The only way to remove the fear from our lives is to listen to God’s assurances to us in His Word.” – Oswald Chambers

Since God is Truth, His Word and His promises are all truth. When you read God’s word the Bible and let God speak to you early in your prayer time and early in your day, He will bless you and encourage you through His word.

What you see in your circumstances are not the truth. And your feelings and emotions on not the truth. What we see and feel often mislead us to making the wrong conclusions about our circumstances. But God’s Word the Bible is full of God’s truth. And encouraging and strengthening messages.

In Part 3 of Why Read The Bible Daily ? we will continue to look at even more reasons why you should spend time daily with God.

    The Mall or the Manger?

Much has changed since the God of the universe decorated the night sky with the star of Bethlehem and directed the choir of angels in a chorus announcing the birth of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. But the commercialism doesn’t have to rule in our hearts and homes. This year let’s focus on the Christ Child and remember the true meaning of the holiday season. As we turn our eyes to the Babe in the manger, we will not view Christmas as a dreaded obligation or a major retail event. It will be a time of joyous celebration, honoring the One Who came to give us eternal life and worshipping our Heavenly Father.
