Will There Be More Democrats Or Republicans In Heaven? - .

Occasionally, our country’s government shuts down the government offices. The reason is because the two parties that run this country can’t see eye-to-eye on issues. Some of them even claim to be Christians. It makes one wonder if there will be more democrats or republicans in heaven.

Divisions in governments are not new. Even the ruling parties of the Jewish religious leaders didn’t agree on some issues. That is the basis for our devotion today.

When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. Acts 23:7 NIV

The above verse says when he said this. What did Paul say? Verse 6 reports,

Paul realized that some members of the high council were Sadducees and some were Pharisees, so he shouted, “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, as were my ancestors! And I am on trial because my hope is in the resurrection of the dead!” Acts 23:6

Verse 8 tells us the problem that arose with Paul’s statement.

For the Sadducees say there is no resurrection or angels or spirits, but the Pharisees believe in all of these. Acts 23:8

Governments today have a hard time agreeing to disagree. They have always gone against each other, and they probably always will.

Their number one goal seems to be to declare a victory over the other party. It gets very petty and can be very childish.

It was the same thing back in the days of Paul. Since both sides were more interested in their own political status, their relationships with God suffered.

Then in turn the people who were under their leadership also suffered.

Being a Democrat or Republican Doesn’t Change God’s Word

In Heaven

Today, when it comes to the church, there certainly exists a multitude of different views. If there are five churches in a small town, each of them can have significant differences.

One of those can even be how a person will enter heaven.

That is one thing that we should all agree on. Jesus said He is the way, the truth, the life. He is the only way to the Father. It doesn’t get any simpler than that. Those words need no interpretation.

Speaking of heaven, I asked a question at the beginning of this devotion. Will there be more democrats or republicans in heaven? Let me tell you right up front, it really doesn’t matter.

In heaven, there will only be one party, one train of thought, and everyone will get along. How can this happen you may ask? It’s because there will be no such thing as Republicans or Democrats, Sadducees or Pharisees.

Heaven will not be governed by a democracy. God, our leader, is the head and doesn’t rule by dictatorship. His leadership is a theocracy. Theocracy is the form of government in which God and His laws are recognized as the supreme civil ruler.

His government is built upon love and grace which promotes unity. It hasn’t changed from the beginning of creation. Now that’s what I call “the grand old party”.

Here is a related devotion about the Grace of God.

Lord, help us to lay our differences at your feet. So we can live in loving unity as brothers and sisters in Jesus.
