You Got It! Now What?

GO GET IT!
Remember Mephibosheth? His name means “shame destroyer”, “image breaker”, but you wouldn’t fully understand why if you only know half his story – how King David called for Jonathan’s remaining descendants to bless them only to find this broken man in a low place called Lodebar.
The King’s Table
Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” ~2 Samuel 19:8, New International Version
Mephibosheth would eat at the king’s table and be served by Ziba, the king’s servant, and his servant and sons at the decree of David. Like most of us, I could stop the story right there for Mephibosheth didn’t have to get it. It came and got him! All he could have wanted the king provided.
And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet. ~2 Samuel 9:13 NIV
But wait! There is more glory to this story…
Shame. Broken.
When David left Jerusalem under the threat of his son, Absalom, he expected Mephibosheth to go with him but the servant Ziba betrayed them both:
He said, “My lord the king, since I your servant am lame, I said, ‘I will have my donkey saddled and will ride on it, so I can go with the king.’ But Ziba my servant betrayed me. And he has slandered your servant to my lord the king. My lord the king is like an angel of God; so do whatever you wish. All my grandfather’s descendants deserved nothing but death from my lord the king, but you gave your servant a place among those who eat at your table. So what right do I have to make any more appeals to the king?” ~2 Samuel 19:26-28 NIV
By now, David had given all Mephibosheth had to Ziba, but returned half to Mephibosheth because of the betrayal.
(Lord, let me respond to your blessings like this):
Mephibosheth said to the king, “Let him take everything, now that my lord the king has returned home safely.” ~2 Samuel 19:30 NIV
Feed Your Craving
Mephibosheth never fought in a battle, never drew a sword, but he won. He won the battle over shame.
Some of you have heard me say, “If God is all you’ve got, then God is all you need”.
This is that.
Mephibosheth never went after kingdom. He went after the King. He laid down the shame of his legacy and history and picked up glory. His character and devotion caused him to rise above others.
He didn’t need stuff. He needed the King.
Do you need the King?
Does He know you need him?
Can you accept his presence over his provision?
Your dreams and aspirations should be bigger than your vision board. Immersing our lives in God’s presence, saturating our days with his divine, nourishing our souls with his sovereignty is what we need.
Mephibosheth needed David like David needed God hiding in the wilderness from his son…
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced. ~Psalms 63:1-11 NIV
Your shame, your past, your mistakes have no leg to stand on when you go after God above all else.
