Your Song — Carol McLeod Ministries | Find Joy in Your Everyday Life

You were born with a song.

You were created with a song that’s melody is the intrinsic fabric of your very soul.

It is your song that makes you beautiful.

It is your song that attracts others to you.

It is your song that causes your heart to skip a beat or two.

You were born with a song.

“Sing to Him a new song; shout skillfully with a shout of joy.” – Psalm 33:3

What is the name of your song?

Have you given your particular melody a name?  Everyone deserves a name – and your song deserves no less.

John the Apostle and Mother Theresa each sang a rapturous love song.

Solomon, the son of David who was the greatest songwriter of all of history, sang a song of unmatched wisdom.  So did Elisabeth Elliot.

“Compassion” was the name of the melody that was sung by James, the brother of Jesus. And didn’t John Newton also sing that song extremely well?!

And who can deny that Billy Graham sang the sweet, sweet song of salvation?! Paul, the outspoken and learned leader of the early church, sang this same refrain nearly 2,000 years before Billy Graham was even born!

Don’t merely slog through life without giving a thought to the song that you have been given. Name your song and sing your song! The world is waiting for you … yes you! … to sing the song that only you can sing!

What is the name of your song?

The name of my song is “Joy”… as many of you already know.

Now, I will be the first to admit that I have often had to battle for the right to sing my particular song – but the battle has been worth it.  I am not willing to give up my song or to change the name of it!

I will not sing a song of disappointment … or a tune of discouragement … or a melody in a minor key.

I will sing of joy… even when there are tears streaming down my cheeks.

I will sing my song of joy with my hands lifted in the air … even when my heart is in pain.

I will sing of joy when happiness is nowhere to be found.

You were born with a song.  You were not left out of the grandest symphony in all of eternity.  So – why are you so quiet?  What has stifled the melody of your own ingenious and powerful song?

I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart, and my spirit ponders.” Psalm 77:6

Today is the day that I am calling you to stir up the song that is uniquely yours.

Today I am challenging you to give your song a name!

Today I am reminding you to remember your song even during the night.

Now … not only does your song deserve a name but it also requires well-written lyrics that are memorable and easy to sing along with!

“He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord.” – Psalm 40:3

Have you yet written the lyrics that will cause others to listen to your unique carol?

If you want others to match the cadence and the rhythm of your glorious song then it must come with words! Your song is not complete without the power of the lyrics that only you can write!

“My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my verses to the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” – Psalm 45:1

Whenever I have been searching for a really great lyric to accompany the song of my heart – I have often begun to make a list of the things for which I am truly grateful and then I begin to sing those words out loud.

It seems like David, the Psalmist, often did the same thing.

“I shall remember the deeds of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will meditate on all Your work and muse on Your deeds.” – Psalm 77:11-12

If you are wondering where to find the lyrics that will accompany the song of your heart – make a list of blessings! Begin to thank God for Who He is and what He has accomplished in your life!  It works!  What great lyrics you will be singing over the storms of life!

I have also found substance and meaning for the song of my heart in the Word of God. When my human words seem empty and void – I begin to sing the verses that I love in the Bible.

“The joy of the Lord is my strength!”

“You are the Lord who heals all of my diseases!”

“You love me and I am not forgotten!”

Make no mistake about it, my friend! You are a song-writer … a composer … and alyricist!

The songs that you write and the melody that you sing are award-winning compositions!

So sing your song!  Sing in the night and sing in the day!

Sing loudly … sing joyfully … sing confidently!

The world is waiting to hear the song that you were created to sing!

“Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him.” – Psalm 98:1

Thanks for listening to my heart this week.  As you know by now, my heart is truly not a perfect heart but it is a heart that is filled to overflowing with gratitude for the life I have been given and for the people who walk with me.  And, it continues to be a heart that is relentlessly chasing after God and all that He is!
