We’ve been talking a lot about prayer lately (if you haven’t joined the 21-Day Prayer Challenge yet, what are you waiting for?! I designed this challenge to help you push past some of the mental blocks that you might not even be aware of, but are keeping you from talking with God and finally develop a habit of praying).

But sometimes mental baggage just isn’t the problem. Sometimes you just don’t have the words to say.

Sometimes you just don’t have the words to say.

Maybe you’re too beat down, tired or discouraged to form a comprehensible thought. Maybe life has been too heavy and all your words get stuck in your throat. What can you do? Do you give up? Fold in to anxiety and despair?

These are precisely the times we need to pray even more! But how?

These are precisely the times we need to pray even more!

Borrowed words, my friend.

There are centuries worth of words, beautiful words, raw words, poignant words, that are at our disposal. Words that express every human thought and emotion eloquently and accurately. And it can bring so much comfort just reading them and realizing we aren’t alone in our experiences and feelings.

So where do you go to find these words? I’m so glad you asked. One of my favorite sources is the Bible. And before you roll your eyes, hear me out.

There are centuries worth of words at our disposal.

I went through a crippling season of anxiety, panic attacks, and PTSD where I didn’t want to touch my Bible (you can read all about that season of my life in my book—Holy Doubt). I felt like it was mocking me in parts, and so out of touch in others. It wasn’t until I came back to it later that I realized how much it actually had to say on the very things I thought it was clueless about. And I wish someone had taught me how to use those very words to connect with God.

So that’s exactly what I want to do for you! Join me on Instagram starting Monday, February 14th, 2022 as I teach you how to pray through the Psalms. (Plus you’ll get lots of bonus tips on prayer)! Don’t miss out! See you on Instagram.

P.S. Here’s a couple of other great resources for borrowed words:
