10 Amazing things about having a big brother

Having an elder brother is one of the most unique gifts that God could give to a person. We may not appreciate them often, like our spouses or parents, but they deserve to be recognized for all their love and sacrifices.

Although they are the first to tease us about our mistakes and could drive us crazy with their behavior, you know that you can always rely on them in times of need.

Amazing things about having a big brother

As children, we blamed our brothers for ruining our playtime or teasing us in front of our playmates.

We may not like him for being so protective as a teenager, but we eventually appreciate him once we understand that he is doing it for our sake.

As we grew up and became adults, we realized how incredible it was to have an older brother.

Here are some things to help us appreciate our older brothers.

Family matters for them

The elder brothers are very family-oriented. Most of the time, getting married is their lowest priority because they want to care for their siblings and parents.

They bear the perfect resemblance to our fathers and make sure that everyone in the family is happy and secure. In terms of parenting, they help in everything, from looking after his siblings to helping to provide for their needs.

He is a great leader

Being an elder in the family, they could influence their siblings significantly. His siblings look up to him and do what he does. Just like our dads, we siblings value their authority and have to obey them.

Additionally, he is a leader who cares for your wellness and does not just give commands to follow but shows you how. He is the one who gives you advice about how to respect and love your parents.

If you had more than one sibling, you would agree that your eldest brother will guide you to do what is right and best to achieve your dreams. He always leads you and your siblings to care for each other, even when you have already built your own families.

He is a responsible team leader and wants every member to succeed.

He will always protect you

Men are made to be protective. Elder brothers would not allow anyone to hurt their siblings, especially their sisters.

It could be annoying if your older big brother always intervened in your love life, but he is made to protect you from all the boys who would hurt you.

Another fantastic thing about having an elder brother is that he and his friends will always be there, even if they could cause trouble. His best friends will treat you as one of them and look out for you.

He is your number-one supporter

If there is one man who would be so proud of you, next to your dad is your elder brother. He would give you all the help you need to achieve your dreams. Your elder brother is your number one fan and would brag about all your achievements on his social media accounts.

Besides, he is willing to sacrifice for him to support you. Some elder brothers sacrifice their education just to work to support their siblings in their studies. Others may sacrifice getting married and wait until their siblings are stable in their careers.

Moreover, you can rely on your elder brother when you need financial support because no matter how complex their situations are, they will find ways to help you.

He makes time for you

No matter how busy they are in their careers, your elder brother will always find time to check if everything is going well for you and your family. For them, bonding with their siblings is one of their “to-do lists.”

Furthermore, they spend time playing your favorite sports, such as basketball, or they would give you a ride going home after school or work. In other words, the older brother ensures he is always there for his siblings in good and bad times.

He makes no record of wrongs

One fantastic thing about having an older brother is that even though you fight with him a lot, he can forgive you. As siblings, you know you cannot stay mad at each other for long.

You may argue about everything, even small things, but your older brother will not keep records of your wrongdoings, no matter how pissed off he is.

Like your father, he always wants to be on good terms with you. Thus, our older brothers are compassionate and will always have room in their hearts for you.

He cares about your spiritual maturity

As for Christians, our siblings would not want to keep the Gospel for themselves. They care for their siblings more than anyone else.

Our big brothers always remind us not to focus on material things but to place more value on storing treasures in heaven. Although they are imperfect, we can see him as a man who pursues righteousness before the Lord.

He would check on us if we attended church on Sundays and even wanted us to have a Bible study. As an older brother, he wants us to serve and grow as Christ’s followers.

He teaches you to loosen up and have fun

Behind their masculinity is a joker. You will never have a dull moment with your older brother. He makes jokes and says silly things that would make you loosen up

Life is serious and challenging enough, but having an older brother could help you enjoy the humor of practical jokes. You could laugh out loud and be yourself with your older brother.

In addition, pranks are the spice of life, and our older brothers can be our “spice masters.” There is nothing wrong with good pranks to have fun in this stressful world.

He is your build-in best friend

Growing up with a big brother means not worrying about having a playmate or a companion. However, we must accept that he will always be bossy, making him a great brother.

You know you can always count on him through your ups and downs. He can be your partner in crime, but he will always remind you to do the right thing. He can teach you sports that you will both love and enjoy.

He is a good adviser

Although it is difficult to believe in your older brother’s advice, you know that his words are helpful for you to become better. He tends to take on the role of a neutral third party who can give a balanced opinion.

Besides, since your older brother has more experience in life, they do not want us to repeat the same mistakes he made. Thus, he would tell us what to do and what not to do.

More importantly, he is a good listener and will not judge us by our actions.

Appreciate your brothers while you still can

Having an elder or big brother is the perfect example of a true-love-hate relationship. You may hate them for a while, but you cannot unlove them because they are among the most valuable people we could ever have.

Therefore, we should appreciate them while we still have time. Show them that we are thankful to have such an amazing brother. Not everyone can express their love and appreciation to their siblings, so cherish each moment.

In this world of cancel culture, be like Christ, forgive and love unconditionally especially to your loved ones.
