What do I get from worrying?

Life is full of things to worry about. We worry about our food, clothes, and even what others think of us. Everyone, including Christians, is not exempt from getting worried about life.

Why do we worry so much? What do we get from worrying about anything?

Worrying is tiring and could hinder us from enjoying the gift of time God has given us today. Most of the time, worrying becomes more of a habit than praying.

What do I get from worrying

Since worrying has become so typical and habitual, let us see what we can get when we worry.

Here are some things we get when we worry.

Stress

Everyone who worries so much gets stressed. Stress is about having mental tension because of our situation.

The World Health Organization (WHO) noted that stress is humans' natural response to challenges and threats in life.

All of us experience stress to some degree, but when we worry about everything, it significantly impacts our lives.

No one is happy when they are stressed. Most of the time, they get irritated, affecting their relationships with others.

Mental illness

When we worry, we overthink everything. Overthinking everything prevents us from making crucial decisions and keeps us from enjoying our blessings. Thus, it damages our lives.

Sometimes, it could result in mental illness. Overthinking is commonly related to Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD).

It is characterized by the possibility of worrying too much about various things.

Moreover, there are three sources of GAD. This could be developed due to people’s genes or personality factors.

Some people cannot tolerate uncertainties in life, which cause anxiety disorders.

Besides, we could develop GAD through our life experiences. A registered psychotherapist, Natacha Duke, noted that GAD usually combines all three factors.

More importantly, people with GAD have difficulty focusing on things and sleeping.

Emotional damage

Those who worry too much are usually the ones who are broken inside. They are unhappy people. They usually lose their love for themselves.

It could lead to mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. Worriers also experience bipolar disorder, cognitive thinking problems, personality changes, and behavioral problems.

Thus, when we are emotionally damaged, it could also affect our relationships with others, especially with our loved ones.

Also, worriers tend to lose their self-esteem and feel hopeless.

Physical sickness

Worrying leads to numerous physical illnesses, such as heart disease, Diabetes, and Hyperthyroidism.

Some people may have eating and sleeping disorders when they worry too much about everything. These factors could cause more serious physical diseases.

Others may attribute their worry to eating too much food, which could lead to diabetes.

More so, some worriers drink too much alcohol, which could affect their livers.

Besides, another worst scenario is that those who worry too much hide behind drug abuse, thinking they can escape their anxieties.

Disconnected with God

God said You should not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink—or your body—what you will wear. (Matthew 6:25)

When we worry about our lives, we disobey and distrust the Lord, believing He is powerful enough to supply our needs.

Moreover, worried people do everything on their own. They find ways to get out of their situation or solve their problems.

Although they may say they believe in God, worrying does not show our trust and faith in Him.

Thus, our worries disconnect us from God. It hinders Him from working for us and helping us with our problems. Jesus Christ regarded these people with little faith.

Additionally, worried people do not believe in God’s promises.

Exhaustion

Worried people are always tired. They are physically, mentally, and emotionally tired of everything. They could not help but overthink everything, despite doing everything to overcome their situation.

Furthermore, despite trying everything, they still feel stagnant, and nothing is happening despite all their sacrifices.

Since they feel alone, they only rely on themselves instead of seeking God's strength.

We are only humans, and even robots get tired. When we worry, we deprive ourselves of resting and giving ourselves a break.

Little did we know that we were destroying ourselves as we tried to do and think about everything, even those we could not control.

Thus, tired people are unhappy and only see negative things in life.

Blinded by the lies of Satan

Satan loves us so much when we worry, so he puts more lies in our heads to make us more worried about our circumstances. This could help us forget God’s promises for us.

In addition, worried people are often involved in sins such as drunkenness, drug abuse, and more. Our brokenness could lead to hurting others, especially our Heavenly Father.

Satan attacks our minds first and fills us with everything we should worry about to distract and destroy us. This is all part of his scheme to deceive us.

Bible verses to help us stop getting worried

God never designed us to worry about life. He wants us to be happy with all He has created for us. He wants us to have a connection with Him and to see the good in everything.

Yet, because of sin, we were separated from Him and His purpose for us.

However, God’s love is so unconditional that He sent His son to restore our relationship with Him and give us freedom.

When we accepted Jesus Christ, He redeemed us from the bonds of sin and worry.

Thus, whenever we are worried, let us remember the promises of God for us. His words are true and could give us life and transformation.

Here are some of His promises in the Bible to help us overcome our worries.

Do not worry but pray

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -  Philippians 4:6-7

You are stronger than you think

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power, love, and self-control.” - 2 Timothy 1:7

“Say to those who have an anxious heart, "Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you." - Isaiah 35:4

“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” - Isaiah 40:31

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” -Isaiah 41:10

Believe in God

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” - John 14:1

God will be with you

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." - Joshua 1:9

You are more valuable than anything else

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”- Matthew 6:26

Worries, do not add your days

“And which of you, by being anxious, can add a single hour to his span of life?” - Matthew 6:27

God will deliver you

“I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.”- Psalm 34:4

Be a warrior, not a worrier

With all these promises and affirmations from the Scripture, God empowers us to become warriors who can overcome our worries.

His words are true, and His love is so unconditional that it secures us from everything we need.

Worrying is never beneficial for us, so we should stop worrying about everything and instead pray about anything. Use God’s words and promises to help you conquer your anxieties.

Thus, those who wait, hope, and trust the Lord never fail or lack anything. They are never alone because God is with them. With God, their future is certain.
